Dont think thats it

The vast majority of stay away fans have simply lost faith with football because of extortionately paid, underperforming players. Its very expensive at 22 quid for 2 hours "entertainment" and its only this season and some of last that football at Oakwell has been remotely entertaining. People have simply found better value for money elsewhere.

Its very difficult to get these people back. I know at least 9 or ten former st holders whom have simply stopped going. None of these go anywhere else to watch footy.

RE: Its the sort of figure

Tbh, I can't think of more than maybe 1 player (Simon Francis) that Southend have signed this season that I would have been bothered about signing.

and that relates to the discussion how exactly?

I am merely pointing out that we have lost a players we were interested in to other clubs consitantly this year..and some to clubs with less financial clout. I am not being negative but I guess whether we are above southend or any other 3 clubs come the end of the season remains to be seen.

There's a distinction between if we have the money, but will not pay the required wages for whatever reason, and the situation where we may just not have the money to meet certain demands.

    I realise that..

but market forces dictate wage levels.

If we cannot or (will not) compete on salary with other Championship teams then we run the risk of losing championship status.

It would appear to me that the club have adotped the stance on wages which is more likely to lead to a relegation battle when the innevitable injury/suspension crisis is upon us. Richtea has indicated today that we may start to consider paying the wage demands when survival looks probable which seems arse abart face to me.

This may or may not prove to be a case of "pennywise, pound stupid"

    RE: I realise that..

I think there's a lot of assumptions that it's the club being intransigent.

We don't know what's being asked, but we should also factor in that there may be other things that influence a player's decision which club to join aside money.

Sheff U were apparently "poor payers" as I suspect Reading were as well.

    They seemed to do Ok.

Paying lots of money in wages does not guarantee anything.

    Richtea's statement today

we cant (wont) meet wage demands. We may come christmas if survival is likely.

    Thats abart what he said.

    I never said it did.

I said it seems we are not prepared to pay "championship wages" (which are what they are.) unitil we are reasonable sure of survival which was merely summarising what AR said on radio deedar today.

Having a painfully wafer thin squad outside the first 11 may prove to be the crux of the matter.

I listened to what he said last night.

He said there were "stupid" wage demands being made. The club at the moment were not in a position to meet such demands.

However, he thought that if we were more established by Christmas then we could 'push the boat out'.

Can't see owt sinister in that.

I dont think we are in a position to have a squad of 20 first teamers.

11 or 12 , then 5 or 6 fill in players then the youngsters.

So you are happy with the current squad?

I'm not. 2/3 decent players short.

Reid has been out for 4 games, likely will miss saturday?

    What if Kay gets suspended/injured?

What if Togwell and or Howard are missing?

    Diaphanous
