He's not Messi. Of course he needs to learn, he's only 19. I think every footballer on our books could still learn a fair amount. Always room for improvement. I think he'd be ideal in the position currently filled by Jim O'Brien/Jacob Mellis. At the moment however, even when fit, I'd be loathe to include him from the start ahead of those two. He's a good option on the bench, and then hopefully with a pre season uninterupted by injury he can really kick on next year.
How can you judge a U18 performance as premier league quality? If he works hard he might hold down a place at Barnsley, he has done nothing to suggest he will play higher than that. Man U looked at him and passed several years ago. Good luck to him, but let's be realistic.
To be fair, when I was Phil's age I told everybody who would listen that (after just 2 games) Carl Barrowclough was good enough to one day play for England.
