He had a torrid time today, don't think he prevented a single corner, but then I'll never see him as a full back/wing back
I know you will, I know you will, plus this adding meat **** is just another internet put down abart who can write the better and argue the toss forever and a day.
He looks useful going forwards, but he doesn't look like a wing back in my eyes, doesn't do enough defensively
Had a tough job today against a decent winger. Didn't do a bad job although caught out getting forward a couple of times. I'd certainly give him another go - he puts a shift in.
He's a striker that's never had a chance up top. At worst, he's a 'number 10' and would be better in that role than Jennings. And, he's still a better defender than Kennedy.
Not a left-back or wing-back..like Mellis play the lad in his proper place, and then judge if you want...
He isn't a natural defender , but on the ball he has pace and a touch off class, he looked lost today playing left wing back , maybe he is a confidence player and he just had a bad day today
If you want more..well I don't have too much to offer - like the original post says I think he is just too inconsistent. He'll play OK, then be annonymous in the next game. He's a half decent attacking option but half of his crosses hit the ponty end or the linesman on the other side of the pitch without him looking up. He flatters to deceive I think. Perhaps he does suffer from a lack of games and it may be worthwhile giving him more of a run to see if the consistency develops but you have to ask why he doesn't get that run because it is not just one manager who has been loathe to give him a run, it is a whole string of them. For me, it is just a gut reaction that he'll never set the world on fire - he is OK on his day, and is useful as a squad filler but I never think "oh RNL is coming on - that will sort us out" - he just doesn't excite me. He'll make a living out of football for sure, but his career will eventually end without too many people noticing. Sorry, It's just my opinion, but what do I know.
Wasn't at his best by any stretch and did look lost. Needs a run of games though, can't keep putting him in and out of the side all the time. Poor lad doesn't know whether he's coming or going.
That's a very fair summary. But I think you're being harsh regards "a string of managers". He was introduced at 15 by Davey. Robins began to select him before he departed (he was still only 17). It's only Hillcroft who've not given him a proper run. Yet they've given proper runs to less deserving players, have they not? Until he is given at least 10 games in one position, I think it's unfair to write him off. He was one of our brightest players second half last week. He was one of the best players against Huddersfield. And also against Hull last season - those were his last three proper appearances. Yet he's part of a team that loses by one goal away at Leicester (where he scored a bicycle kick last season) and some say "not good enough" etc. Are there not a lot worse players, who have had ten times the games? But, your opinion is as valid as mine, and until he gets that run of proper games neither of us can be proven right/wrong.
Whitey, I understand where you are coming with RNL and I agree he deserves a run in the side in his rightful position as he has some ability but he will NEVER EVER be able to consistently defend or be a good enough wingback. He might get away with it the odd game particularly at home but he looked completely lost today. As though we'd pulled some kid from crowd and stuck him on. Positionally he just doesn't get it(Think it might have been him not for first goal today but couldn't tell from angle) and when it comes to making a tackle he completely sells himself.
Is that tomato sauce and brown sauce or an actual tomato and brown sauce? I've got the corned beef bit...it's stuck between mi teeth.
