Rumour is that's the reason he turned the Blackpool job down. Spoke to WR 1st,who probably told him his intention to step down and that Rosenior would be a shoe in for the job
Unlikely as the ground has been bought and the guy lined up has lent money to enable Derby to play next season(presumably until takeover is confirmed). Edit just read rest of thread so just repeating others
I can't see any new owner willing to pay £80k per week or whatever he was on, especially as they will have to stick to some EFL signed off business plan.
Willing or not. They would have to. Unless there's a different rule for managers. Compared to players. I don't know what the standing is with Bet 365 who were stumping up his wages as a player.
1st half of the season he did more than a decent job. Second half was poor in comparison. I don't know if he lost part of his squad in the January window. But summat went wrong. 31pts took after 23 games. Obviously minus -21 31 pts in the second half would have kept em up.
Not sure why you are banging on about him not getting a pay off , by all accounts he has resigned & is not trying for a pay off like you are suggesting, in fact its the opposite , well done Mr Rooney you have done the honourable thing .
To be fair to WR his statement on BBC is better than I would have given him credit for, irrelevant of reasons fair play to him.
That's Derby's tv coverage halved, I reckon. Shame. I was looking forward to seeing us on Sky in August. WRDCFC v MDBFC. Oh well... No doubt Sky will be hoping he lands another "big club" gig.
I thought sponsors were paying his wages? Or perhaps that was just for a season, or whilst he was playing, or whatever. But he's done the right thing I think
I think whilst he was playing 32Red paid additional sponsorship into the club for him to wear the number 32 shirt. Same as I can sponsor any of our players except they paid millions in and I’d chuck in £4.50
Bet365 certainly weren’t paying his wages. That’s the Coates clan who own Stoke! I’m also not sure whether 32Red, who I presume you meant, were still stumping up his wages. He’d been deferring a lot of his pay to make sure the players got paid anyway by all accounts. Those suggesting he’s after a payoff are wide of the mark too I’d suggest. They have nothing to give him for a start - but he’s paid the players wages at least twice (not sure of the truth of that, it’s from a Derby supporting mate of mine), but I don’t see him walking away with a golden handshake at all.
Rooney said: “Over the course of the Summer I have been closely following developments regarding the ownership of Derby County. “Today I met with the administrators to inform them of my decision that it was time for me to leave the club. In fairness to them, they tried tremendously hard to change my decision but my mind was made up. “My time at the club has been a rollercoaster of emotions, both highs and lows, but I have to say that I have enjoyed the challenge. “Personally, I feel the club now needs to be led by someone with fresh energy and not affected by the events that have happened over the last eighteen months. I will remember my time at Derby with great pride and affection and would like to thank all my staff, players and of course the fans for their incredible support. I will never forget you and hope to see you all again in the near future and in happier times. “Finally, I am aware that the club still have interested parties who wish to take over the running of the club. To them I say this, Derby County is a great club with a great history and great fans. I wish you all the best and much success for the future.”
