Charlton played in 14 world cup finals? And they rave on about the longevity of Ryan Giggs...

    Interesting statistic
Peter Crouch scored 22 Goals over 4 years at an average of a goal every 99 minutes - almost a goal a game
Wayne Rooney scored 45 Goals over 11 years at an average of a goal every 167 minutes - a goal every 2 games

Just shows what Statistics can do eh as Rooney is definitely a better player

For reference Lineker -who I would argue was better than either of them scored 48 goals over 7 years scoring every 136 mins - a goal every 1.5games. But he scored more of his goals in major finals

But the home nations in Charlton's day were far better than they are nowadays and this was an annual tournament that the nations all desperately wanted to win. They only scrapped the home internationals in 1984 when England got too big for their boots and decided they'd rather play friendlies against Brazil and Argentina, or go on tours to more exotic climes. When I was a kid the home internationals were something to look forward to and were usually cracking matches.
