Well it's not an easy job - but the successful candidate will take on a club that has a good ground, and excellent training facilities. The squad is decent - under performing - but has some talented individuals such as Anderson, Hammill and Bogdanovic. There is a chairman who will back a manager much longer than most would - until today Davey was one of the longest serving managers in the football league (and that with three relegation contests behind him). I'd like to feel that the era of 'going through' managers is behind us now. The attendances aren't great - but will no doubt improve if the form goes in the right direction.

Yes there's a job to do - the form has been poor, we're bottom of the division BUT FFS that's why Davey got fired. If we were midtable we wouldn't have had to get rid. When you take a job in football you expect to have some work today when you arrive.

Nothing we can do about the transfer window - except get some loan players in.

At the moment I'd say that we're a pretty decent prospect for any manager, because we can only improve from where we are now and we all recognise that if properly managed this group of players come play much better as a side than they have been doing under Davey. We've seen the odd performance here or there that has shown what they can do. We just have to get the right bloke in and we'll start moving forward.

cracking point, most managers only get jobs because clubs are struggling and we are definately struggling! Why wouldn't we be a good proposition to an out of work manager? Too much doom and gloom sometimes, the infrastructure is there we just need someone to organise & motivate the side.

Surely being at oakwell every day beats watching Jeremy Kyle and Flog it!

probably so but suggesting we are not an attractive proposition to an out of work manager is simply wrong! We are probably an attractive proposition to plenty of managers in work!

I think we are much more likely to get a manager from a lower league e.g. Mark Robbins than a.......

...........tried and tested manager that has been there and done it in the Championship e.g. Jewell, Coppell

Why ?....because for a lower league manager it might be seen as a step up

But for a proven Championship manager, his reputation is on the line if he takes over a club like Barnsley that cannot afford players that other Championship clubs can afford

That is why I think Davey has done fairly well to get the squad together that he has
We have some great talent in that squad
Problem is.......they dont play as a team

my annoyance is that right now we could be managed by a coppell, curbs, jewell etc.

how much damage has been done by letting him continue for 3-4 months and then getting red??

RE: I think we are much more likely to get a manager from a lower league e.g. Mark Robbins than a...

Agree in a way but also disagree if you know what I mean. We're a club with a long history of playing at this level and with a bit of guidance shoulod continue to do so. Any manager worth his salt must surely put his reputation on the line whenever he takes on new job. I don't think we're the poisened chalice so called barnsley fans are making us out to be.

Davey was one of the longest serving managers in the division so why should a new manager get less time?? unless he loses his first two games then **** him!

I agree to some extent it does seem strange to back him especially financially and then boot him out, but I think it is the right choice. Hopefully with 41 games left the new man can get the best out of them. Too much loyalty from Mr Cryne maybe but loyalty is not always a bad thing!

As I said... you've just made it up!

Names mentioned in papers are not the clubs shortlist as you surely know. I can remember 2.5 years ago........... you were still spouting ***** then!!!!

I don't see why Paul Jewell isn't a realistic option - he's out of work, has never managed a really big club, and to be honest, is probably on the cusp of being forgotten and never working in football again - If he isn't back in the game this season with somebody then that is a very realistic scenario.

I think he'd crawl to Barnsley for the job if offered it.

The question is, is he top of the list - I wouldn't bemoan his appointment but I am not sure he's top of my list.
