he was replaced by Glyn Riley, always tried his best but not a Parker, bit like when I wanted a blue snorkel Parker and got a purple pleather coat from C and A Girls section so my sister could have it as hand me down, when I eventually got a proper boys coat could not fasten the buttons
Just watched the game against against Sheffield u in 1980 we beat them 2.1 I can,t think of any of the current team that would get in that side. They played with a lot more pace ,skill breathtaking to watch.
I've been saving this to watch for the last few days and finally got round to it this evening. What a treat! I couldn't get to this match but this must have been one of the highlights of that season. I can only imagine the euphoria felt by the Reds fans as we entered that last ten minutes and finally went ahead through the spectacular overhead from Banger. Then Ronnie does what Ronnie did, often. He just popped up from nowhere to clinch the win with a fourth. Shame that Barra couldn't get the goal that his performance deserved and it was ironic after all those brilliantly chipped crosses from the left wing that he couldn't lift the ball over Mountford to score. What a treat to see proper wing play by the way. It's a dying art. This really was a memorable time following the Reds and we were only just short of making the step up to the First Division. I think that squad, plus a couple of additions, would have made a better fist of it than Danny's side did. But, it wasn't to be and once it all started to go wrong for Norman we were on a downward slope that led to all that Clarke/Hunter momentum being lost. Great to see a packed Millmoor - tight little ground that generated a good atmosphere on these derby days. Shame about the brain-donor with the air horn though. What makes people like that think it's clever to let off that awful noise every time Bobby Horn kicked the ball, and now and then when we took free kicks as well. It was noticeable that he stopped once Banks had put us in front. Probably went home! Finally I will add my appreciation for the efforts of Kendray Tyke in bringing these great memories back for us older fans, and for showing the younger ones what they missed out on .
