The most concerning aspect is the inability to bring in cash from transfers of both Helik and Styles. Regardless of what people think of the team and the performances the lack of funds could be the biggest issue this season. Without the sale of these players and significant funds flowing in to the club the owners are faced with the need for a multi-million pound injection of funds.
Still a bit of time untill transfer deadline day, its a bit early to say inability to get the money in from sales. I wouldnt spend millions on Styles at the moment he should be the stadout player in our team , he isnt but could and should be. Helik will need to pass a fitness test i presume and i sure clubs are not making their best offers for players up until they have to and we certainly shouldnt be selling at first offer stage.
The words of the original poster are very well put and are the views of a lot of us stay away supporters.
I hope the academy is going to survive and prosper and I did say we’d had a dearth of back room staff - until recently. I was encouraged by the resent recruits there. But look at how many we have shed recently including possibly the most loyal of them all in Sedgy The office staff are fine but another example - I went to buy my son a shirt after he match yesterday and the ship and box office was closed. The fan zone is great in the current weather but useless for most of the season - we were promised an improvement in match day experience and now we don’t even have an indoor space since Redferns went And as for Jacque Quay- she engaged fans on Twitter to say she was actively pursuing a striker and came over from what I can see, go press flesh and have a few pics, but nothing of substance. Don’t be fooled by A but if PR And my general points still stand irrespective of result yesterday; I am largely comparing to what I saw at Chesterfield (which is my closest ‘big’ club) to make my points - and we’re so far behind. I’m very impressed by what CFC and their supporters trust are doing but I must admit, somewhat envious of the feel good factor around the club compared to ours. I’d encourage anyone from BFCST to engage CFC supporters trust and share best practice
I’m a Lifelong Barnsley fan but also above all a football fan. I derive enjoyment from watching junior football, non league football or the Champ. I only support BFC and Im desperate for us to do well But I’m not blinkered, and am offering you a contrast with what we’re are being served. If you can only offer such a glib response I’d suggest not to reply at all. Maybe take a look around ?
It is not a glib response It was not a glib response & I will certainly reply to any post I like being that it is an open forum, I genuinely thought you had stopped coming last season & I fully understood your reasons why & if you get pleasure from watching local football then why not , I always said when I stop enjoying going to Oakwell I will walk away & I do not blame anyone for doing the same.
I wouldn't say your daft for renewal of your ticket. I would say it's loyal to your team. It's a pity the owners don't share the same loyalty as our hard core fans. It's just a **** show.
Why go to Chesterfield ive got one of best local non league teams a 10 min walk up the trans pennine and to cap it off they've just qualified for the first preliminary round of the fa cup. Got to admit it 1000 times better than going to oakwell at the moment. Proper entertainment with a proper pint. Be a while before i go back or until the owners have gone. Sorry
You can't be that positive on here about the club you'll get run out of town. I know it's far from perfect but it's largely depressing reading BBS most day's.
Bang on. Not a word out of place. I'll still support them, there's never going to be anyone else be 'my club', even if we're in the national league, but I'm not paying to watch at the minute because a) I've a young family who need looking after first, b) I can't afford it, and c) we're *****. Oakwell wants gutting. In terms of the board, the stadium itself, and the endemic misery that has set in as a result of having scraped by or been mismanaged since the days of Andy Ritchie, possibly longer ago than that. It all started just after a certain ginger right-back joined...
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!! We lost 3-0 get over it, we won 3-0 the game before chalk and cheese and all that. In response to the Chesterfield fan, my own experience on Saturday was not quite as depressing apart from the result (second half particularly poor). I have not seen as many youngsters at a match in ages loads wearing this seasons shirt. I sit in the west stand and get great entertainment watching the kids getting shirts and stuff signed from our players around the dugout area. Only hope we can find some form and give them something to cheer about.
Firstly condolences on losing your dad,a very painful experience for most people. After reading your post about 4 times now I'm sorry but I can't agree with hardly anything you wrote. It comes over as an over reaction to a poor defeat and performance,If you'd have posted the same after the Bristol win it might have got a little more Kudos. You appear to be a new member on the BBS and it seems to me you've collected snippets from other posters who regularly take aim at everything the club do. There's something about your post that doesn't quite add up.
I think things have improved a touch. We've made a good managerial appointment. The new signings seem like good players - Connell, Cadden, Norwood. We need more obviously but, as we know, we're a bit skint. They'll get some in before the deadline. It seems like there's a plan on the pitch, at least. So that's an improvement. Off the pitch, time will tell!
Fair enough if you disagree. But you’re wrong on what you’ve come to assume. I’ve been on BBS for years and only occasionally post as I don’t spend much time on message boards. Too busy for that. So if I post it’s because I see something that needs addressing. And most of my points are about off the field issues, not anything to do with the defeat. It just so happens that Saturday was my first game of the season as I haven’t renewed my ST and was the first time my son also fancied a Saturday at football. I’m far from a results- based supporter as I can see the bigger picture. I don’t come to my conclusions lightly; I am desperate for BFC to do well, nothing gives me more pleasure. First game at 5 and 42 y/old now. Lifelong supporter. I bought my season ticket during covid knowing fine well I wouldn’t see any matches. But I genuinely fear for the club right now, and my concern is too many are taken in by what this new board member and Parek are saying. And I was also contrasting our club with a well-run, supporters own model and the atmosphere and match day experience they generate compared to ours. And it doesn’t reflect well I’m afraid. Ultimately what I’d like to see is a shadow board setting up with the BFCST - per the Crouch recommendations - so that at the very least we can fully scrutinise and understand decisions being made Look at what happened with the west stand (something I didn’t even mention in my first post) - clearly this was a unilateral decision by someone at the club based on the ongoing court case, to try and make a political point about ground ownership. It is absolutely scandalous that someone on our board took this decision knowing fine well it would cost us some long-standing supporters; we deserve to know how and why this decision was made And if we had more transparency and truth, I’d be a lot happier. But there’s a lot going on that we clearly don’t know about. I just want My club back - one that’s run with and for supporters. I don’t mind people running it as a business as long as it isn’t a plaything that means little or nothing to them and is done so as to secure the club’s long term future. Bt Where is Parek ? Where is this JAQ woman? One came for the press conference to announce a new board and one came for a game this season - but there is no hands on management to turn the club around. Instead we have an out of depth ceo left to his own devices We need truth and transparency and a shadow board asap.
We should defo have more kids at the match now using free tickets during the school holiday. Fill up sections of the west or the east upper family area. There’s lots of families on their arses financially who would appreciate an afternoon out at football with their kids especially while the weather is good. People won’t be paying match day tickets soon when inflation hits 20% so need to engage much more with young children to attract them on free tickets
I believe there are some posters on BBS who can’t see what’s in front of their noses. Are you seriously happy with the way this club is being run ? I’m desperate for us to do well and I don’t post lightly
