NO you're not I think he'd do ok. Well I mean as well as any manager of the useless load of time-wasters that pass for international players he'll have to deal with would do.
Seems to get the best out of run of the mill triers, which covers the entire range of talent of everyone who pulls on an England shirt. Sadly, he seems to come unstuck with ego-laden prima donnas, which covers...and you get the rest.
Alas I don't think Hodgson has a chance http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/30042012/58/euro-2012-paper-round-drab-average-yes-man-blazer.html The last time we had 'the people's choice' was Keegan and that went well didn't it. Also to compare Redknapp to Clough is both puerile and laughable. One had won the league with two unfashionable clubs and two European cups with one of them. The other has won one fa cup.
I like Hodgson and think he has an outstanding cv and experience of international football. BUT the reason he was doomed to fail at Liverpool is that the fans wanted someone else for the job. Now he's been offered the England job when, for once, there was a candidate who the majority of fans wanted and the FA have chosen not to pick him. It could be argued this is needlessly stubborn, dooms Hodgson from the start, and leaves the FA open to huge criticism if he's not succesful. They do seem to be making their job pointlessly difficult - if they'd appointed Redknap and it hadn't worked they couldn't really have been blamed. If it doesn;t work out with Hodgson they will be ripped to shreds.
Re: If as his first act in charge, he sacks Stuart Pearce Agree entirely. Time to move on from Ferdinand and Gerrard anyway. And as for Harry "the crook" Redknapp (OK, "allegedly", but I wouldn't trust that guy as far as I can throw him). I think Hodgson is the best man for the job at the moment. Harry must be hopping mad. Good.
I agree, I don't know many people who wanted Redknapp. I like the thought of an experienced bloke at the helm. I cant see him taking too kindly to Terry, Rooney & all their extra curricular activities. The biggest problem he'll have is if the press decide they don't like him, but for now I think he has the respect of the footballing world.
