    Re: RNL

You are very niave. The player already has an agent/adviser who will be looking after the his interests, both on and off the field. They will be dictating to Barnsley at this stage as the boy is a "free agent". If the boy wants to trial with each and every club in the Premier League, there is nothing Barnsley can do to stop him.

according to wiganred who goes to academy games says niether Davey or any of his staff go to either academy or reserve games which goes to show how much he cares for the club 3 years in charge and no one from the youth set up in the first team other than the odd bench warmermay be we should move our academy to some for flung corner of the world at least then he may give them ago

If what I hear about compo is right then we will not get much.

I think the club value the cost to BFC is £3k per annum per academy player. I also believe that the highest we have received for an academy player not under contract moving to another club is £11k.

Now, the big thing here is that although no academy player under 17 is on a pro contract and we have offered them an academy deal then BFC hold the rights to the player and can in certain instances stop a player from being involved in any capacity at another club. Again, this is all based on the compo received.

If Ruben does move on do not expect the Theo Walcott kind of money, even if he has been involved in the first team. Expect less than 6 figures.

This is purely my understanding based on what people involved in the academy have told me.

    To Be Fair.......

it would be unfair for us to turn down the chance for one of our players to go on trial at the biggest and best football team in the world.

I agree Islander. As for Davey advising him Davey will only tell him whats in the best interest of Davey not RNL. I am sure RNL knows he was born in England so will not be first team reg under SD. If you can get davey out of PC's arse we should ask him

    Legally he is not though.

What ever we think morally right in these situations it means nothing without a contract.

Barnsley only hold the rights to his football education, not a playing contract. The fact BFC choose to have him has a '1st teamer' doesnt mean the footballing law does.

The only way we would get decent money for him is if we negotiate a figure that reflects his potential. If we dont get that then we hold his academy contract and stop him playing at any level for 12 months. I dont even think a tribunal would get involved unless asked to by both negotiating parties agreeing to let an independant body setting the correct fee.

He is on "Schoolboy forms" and has made two substitute appearances for the 1st team.
That is how he will be classed if he moves and the compensation is not agreed between the two clubs and it goes to a tribunal hearing.

Dreamboy he will go there for a lot of money if good enough. And Lard your right nearly Davey has watched 2 ,18 games this year. Ronnie Branson and Mark Burton are doing a great job and are far higher in the academy league than Davey had the academy. Davey had them rock bottom by the way.

    RE: Decent compensation.

Hes looked promising when ive seen him but he cant have excelled yesterday because one of the centre backs for Leeds was only from the U15s.

RE: Compensation if RNL were to go.

According to the Barnsley One website RNL is staying at Manchester United for two weeks so they will have plenty of opportunity to have a good look at him in that time before making a decision whether to "invest" or not!
I have said on this site on more than one occasion that I think there are two or three of this seasons first year scholars who have a chance to move up. Time will tell!

    RE: Academy prospects

I think the lad you are refering to is called Teiman although his name has been spelt in different ways by the club since he joined last season.
As I have said before, I think it is unfair to name the ones I think have a chance as I would not wish to put any further pressure on them. And at the end of the day it is only my opinion which I know counts for nothing.
