https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/24074501.pollock-asks-leave-watford-bid-first-team-football/ I know we've just brought in Pines, but I wonder if we are one of the rumoured clubs interested in him. We've been linked to him in the past, and just sent McCarthy out on loan which should have freed up some wages.
Think that’s a bit harsh to Cundy. Very difficult and dark periods for a young lad to deal with having injuries and not being able to play. The club are right to stand by him and assist in his recovery - that’s how football works. You can’t just toss him away and pay him off. It’s very bad PR for the club and not sure it would stand upto PFA scrutiny.
If we are needing a central midfielder for a bit of strength in depth then Joe White might be a shout. Done well on loan at Crewe from Newcastle & likely to go out on loan again. When we played their U21 side in the JPT he was by far their best player (in my opinion).
Out of interest, has anyones suggestion on who we should sign actually ever come to fruition? I dont mean when there's already rumours, I mean random shouts out of blue?
I mean I'm going back years but I mentioned Bradshaw several times as someone I wanted and they went and did it. That was like a year before he signed
I often make a list of 7 or 8 players I'd like us to sign at the start of each season. Out of about 50 names so far, I think we've signed 3. George Moncur, Brad Potts and Nicky Cadden.
Many moons ago I suggested we should sign Jamie Cureton on loan, a few days later he was announced & that weekend he scored on his debut away against Burnley
To be fair I think every Barnsley fan wanted us to sign Moncur after that game last day of the 15 16 season where we drew 2 2 with Colchester and he ran the show looking like prime Gerrard. He was also on my list!
I remember writing to the club to ask them to sign Kevin Campbell when it was in all the papers that he was unhappy at Trabzonspor. He went to Everton on loan and scored 9 goals in 8 games. Still say we should have broken the bank for him.
I have done the same for a number of years, and the only one that has ever come to fruition has been John McAtee.
There have been a few players I thought "I wouldn't mind them" and then they haven't met with my expectations. Michael Mifsud and John Macken spring to mind. Whilst I liked John Macken's effort. He didn't chip in with the goals I thought he might do.
None of mine have ever come off I think we've been close to a few but I'm usually way off the mark tbh, I wanted us to sign Dean Windass when Bradford were in the brown stuff money wise, always had alot of respect for windass remember him getting pelters from the ponty and just smiling back with a thumb up gesture good honest banter.
I remember the good old days when Rochdale were our sister club. Anyone that ever kicked a ball in a straight line or who died trying we used to sign.
I remember when we almost had Kevin Phillips through the door but got gazumped by West Brom I think it was.
Freddie Ljunberg should have joined. He was on the brink, missed his chance and ended up rotting on the fringes at Arsenal.
He went to Birmingham mate, from West Brom. Allegedly at the time, we actually offered him more money than Birmingham, but he was settled in the midlands. He subsequently got them promoted to the Premier League, and then Palace.
The rumour about Ba was that he'd had a trial here, but was deemed not good enough for a contract. I think it was when Simon Davey was manager.
