    Aw
Don't forget that if he chose to do that then he would be committing suicide and mass murder of basically his entire population. The world would send so many nuclear bombs at Russia before any had landed in the UK that he may as well just nuke himself

Germany have re-armed. They did it a long time ago.

They have severely reduced the size of their army (now 64,000) since the end of the Cold War (they had 500,000 in the army in 1980) though.

They have even deployed oversees, recently in Afghanistan.

However, Germany is still very very wary of being seen to be the aggressor.

    Surprise surprise

In the statement issued earlier this month on Ukraine, the group accused the British Government of “aggressive posturing” and that Nato “should call a halt to its eastward expansion”.

A number of Labour MPs who signed a statement which criticised Nato have withdrawn their names, the party has confirmed.
The statement was signed by Diane Abbott, John McDonnell, Richard Burgon, Ian Lavery, Beth Winter, Zarah Sultana, Bell Ribeiro-Addy, Apsana Begum, Mick Whitley, Tahir Ali, and Ian Mearns.
Former Labour leader and former chairman of the coalition Jeremy Corbyn also signed the letter, as did MP Claudia Webbe, both of whom now sit as independents.

Absolutely surreal. The vast majority of Russians are completely against what's going on. One thing is for sure, people are going to get absolutely clobbered financially, so Putin can't afford to let things rumble on for too long. It's all very well a few thousand middle class hipsters and students coming out in protest in the rich cities, but they're not on the breadline. It's when 25% of the population are plunged into severe poverty that the **** will really start to hit the fan.

Im not sure how that works? There would be little comfort as we would be dead. And the Russian people would be dead.

Germany can and has rearmed, at the end of the cold war Germany could put a lot of serious kit into the field, the problem is mainly during the Merkel years, they have failed to spend. The Nato committment is 2% of GDP, Germany, despite being the most financially capable country in europe has not met that committment for a long time, only 1.2% at the time of the article below.

An article from the German publication and media ... Deutsche Welle from 2018.

Why don’t you give Zelensky a call - I’m certain he’d be most accommodating and give the order to drop his weapons! Maybe you should offer your services as a diplomatic envoy?

You obviously are on the inside! As long as it’s not in our back yard then?

The Chinese won't lob missiles at Russia as they are about to be beneficiaries of Germany's decision to withdraw from the gas pipeline project. North Korea will follow the Chinese line which leaves Israel, the USA, the UK and France. The USA aren't prepared to be the West's policeman anymore. Between Israel, the UK and France we couldn't get enough bombs to even come anywhere near Russia's arsenal.

We don't need huge numbers of nuclear weapons, the UK has 4 nuclear missile submarines, each of which can unleash 64 independently targeted warheads. That's 64 cities wiped out. By one submarine. We have 4. France has similar capability so don't get too hung up on numbers.
They're not an offensive weapon, they are and have been a deterrent for 50 years.
I hope they continue to be so.

Not much of a deterrent really?

I don't think they are much of a deterrent at present. He knows we won't use them whilst he attacks other countries.

That’s really a question of how far do you believe that this is the extent of Putin’s imperialist and idealogical desire. If, indeed, this is a bigger concern - and a threat to democracy, human rights and freedom - then maybe you need to reconsider if there is an alternative for the Ukraines. Why would anyone wish to live under such a despot and tyrant like Putin.

The risk of having 256 of your cities nuked is a pretty effective deterrent in my book. There have been warmongers in Russia before but how many have dared use nuclear weapons?

What's a deterrent about having nuclear weapons to stop the use of nuclear wespons. They don't prevent war, they cost billions of pounds.
