i'm just here to tell you, your government lies to you, the media lies to you, if you want to swallow whatever narrative they see fit to pump out today, then go for it. I'm not pro-Russian, I'm pro the truth, and the truth is no one in this war is innocent except for the civilians who die regardless.

John Sweeney has just reported from Kyiv...I'm paraphrasing his words....
.' although unverified, it is from a good source...Ukrainian troops have cut off a large Russian force NW of Kyiv and are preparing to take a significant amount of prisoners'

Sweeney now saying he has it confirmed.

You have a very interesting way of looking at things.

    Bonkers. But still very interesting.

They're at war mate. Their citizens are being bombed into the stone age. Have a think about that.

Civilians aren't innocent mate. They're the ones who often vote these nutjobs in.

Or go along with the nutjobs because they can't be arsed to have a mind which rummages around for the truth that you're in favour of.

You can't just stick your son in a war uniform and say he's no longer like you anymore - he's a soldier, you're a civilian.

Anyway, I agree with your other stuff on this post. Keep it up.

I know my government lies, that the media lies, and that there’s no such thing as a wholly ‘good’ government.

And to know that I only have to have a healthy view of life.

    ;)

It only took 22 minutes to come up with that as a response?

I am in awe. It's going to be life changing for me. M'off to walk the dog.

He's a good dog. But not wholly.

There is no such thing as 'neutral' as far as Russian history is concerned. You are either an enemy or a vassal state.

Russian history. And remember Russian history is not a lie, it's an alternative reality.

Ever read 'The Falsifiers of History?' Written by Stalin. Give it a go and tell me you believe it. Because that's what post 1945 Russian history is based on.

Mmm... well i hope you think that what's happening in Ukraine at this moment is not an alternative reality.

Well it clearly is to Putin. It's not even a war as far as he's concerned.

Democracy was shut down here during both world wars. Foreign nationals were interned. Times of crisis change things. I’m surprised that your brilliant logic can’t extend itself to a little better insight.

Yes, Ukrainian democracy is fragile. I'd say it is in every former Russian Republic.
Yes, the Azov brigade has a heavy neo nazi content. Same idiots you'll find all over that part of the globe.
Yes, there's a long way to go in Ukraine re homophobic and every other neanderthal mindset. Sort of similar to the whole of the old Eastern bloc.
We all know that. We're not "sheeple". We also know that the Ukrainians lie about how many Russians they've killed or captured just like the Russians do.
Christ, some folk think they've a monopoly on critical thought.
However, the Ukrainians aren't invading Russia and bombing Russian cities to rubble are they?
So, thanks, but theres no equivalence.

We're not therefore talking about history here are we?

Putin's Russians get told an historical narrative. By his state. Which might in part be true cos they've put up with a lot of devastation over the centuries.

At least with this horror, it's easy to work out what's right. Isn't it?

Meanwhile in Belarus, democratic values trampled all over by Lukashenko and Putin.

There was a government of National unity not a government of shutdown the opposition. I’m surprised you don’t know the difference, and btw they were shutting them down before the war started so let’s no hear anymore a talk of the crisis of war making this a unique situation. The shameful internment of Germans ( including thousands of Jews fleeing persecution ironically enough), led eventually to an outcry in parliament (what? Functioning scrutiny in time of war? Surely not!) and most were subsequently released and many helped with the war effort.

The problem is the west has no moral authority to preach about anything. There can be no “illegal war” declared here when we have previously undertook illegal wars ourselves and flattened plenty of cities in the process all in the name of “freedom”. If the standards set by the Nuremberg trials had continued to be applied every US president since then would have gone on trial. Have you noticed who ends up on trial at The Hague? Generally black dictators from poor African countries, no co-incidence is it?

So in what way would Russian-affiliated parties in Ukraine contribute to a government of National Unity? Off-hand I don’t recall Mosley’s mob or the Communist Party of Great Britain being invited to sit round the table with Churchill and Attlee. Unless you know otherwise of course.
