Or, he is a president ( under intense pressure) of a small country , invaded by a larger country at the behest of a megalomaniac ,that is killing his citizens indiscriminately, has been for months, who is desperately trying to get help, wherever and whenever he can.
If we are going to be pedantic here I think Russia might be a bit bigger with a population of 145 million
They're still classed as peace loving minnows. It would be like us invading Sweden, Germany or Holland.
so all options are on the table for Zelensky and we should support that? If he knew about it and was lying, is still lying actually- because he' still denying it was a Ukrainian missile, that fine, he's just doing his thing? Okay, he's trying to start WWIII but who can blame him?
There are a couple of things at play here. The only chance Putin has of getting anywhere is to cause division in the west and cause the supply of weapons, intell, training and ammo to dry up. RUSI military analysts and other defence think tanks like the ISW think Putin is launching missiles at Ukraine to get people to leave and create a refugee crisis that swamps NATO countries so they start putting pressure on zelensky to reach a deal he doesn't want. You also have to read the subtext a bit and be a bit hard nosed. Is NATO going to go to war over what may be an accident (albeit brought on by malign intent?) No. Could there be doubt enough? Yes. The us began saying it was a russian missile and walked this back to saying it wasn't fired from Russia. Ok then. The Russians fire cruise missiles from mig 31 "foxhound" planes stationed in Belarus, especially at western Ukraine, so both statements could actually be correct. It may also be the case that Putin is pushing as far as he can to again get the west to give up supporting Ukraine. Eg France and Germany say this is getting scary now, let's end this at all costs. If it was a russian missile with such an intention, best response, ignore him like the naughty child he is. It will be years before the exact truth is released if ever.
He didn't say that did he? There's no doubt Zelensky and Ukraine, pre and post war, are not squeaky clean. Far from it and we should never lose sight of that but neither should we lose sight of who the aggressor is in this war and who is deliberately slaughtering innocent civilians to achieve their ends.
