I’d hazard a guess the board think we’re already down and once confirmed they can get shut for nowt rather than any compensation.
9pts from safety with all 3 in the mix still to play, 2 at home, hate chopping and changing managers but it's clearly not working here, nor anything positive looking at league 1 if the board had any inclination of staying in the championship then now is the time, should they throw in the towel now then what impact financially next season where we'd probably struggle there once the mass exodus happens
If you wanted Schopp out then unless you’ve lost complete interest in the club then surely you want Poya out too? Schopp came in when nearly all the back room staff had changed & didn’t have Morris & barely had Anderson plus a lot of the new signings weren’t fit until well into his reign. Poya’s working with a more settled squad, has better & fitter players available & hasn’t made us any better. It’s not like we’ve been unlucky either. There’s only the Cardiff game that I think we deserved to win. We’ve been dire for the most part. The annoying thing is it still felt possible to stay up pre-Cardiff due to how poor Reading, Cardiff & Peterborough have been. We didn’t even have to get that much better to stay up.
Both Reading & Posh lost tonight. The number of chances we've had to make ground on them is unbelievable. I see these two and Tarn for the drop, as Derby are the only team showing any fighting spirit.
He has to go & we need to bring Val back pronto along with Murray, they know the club & they know the players & they would be perfect to get us back up next season, division one requires a physical approach , desire & work rate , all qualities Val insists on , bring him back !!!
He did no better this season with better quality players. Why, next season, would he succeed with a squad likely to be less superior to the other teams in League One than he's enjoyed this year in the Championship? Especially as he'll be playing teams more naturally robust and direct than those at our current level. He had the surprise factor in his favour last season. That has well and truly disappeared. I agree he'd have us giving 100% and fit plus playing to an actual plan and that's a massive improvement on this season but it will need more than that to get us up. I'm not saying he can't do it but I just don't get the idea that he's like some magic pill. Unless he adds more strings to his bow I think he's already peaked career wise.
Firstly he got the sack with West Brom at the time 5 th in the division so really you cannot say whether he would have done better this season than last especially given that he had another 18 games still to go , I also think that with the close season he would have time to address the physical side of the squad & make them robust although he got a tune out of such players as Chaplin & Frieser last season who had to close down some very physical championship defenders & were to say the least on the smaller side . I agree with you that he has no magic pill but one of the main reasons I would like him back is that it would prevent our wonderful owners from taking another punt on an unknown inexperienced manager like they have this season , at least with Val they know what they are getting & I believe he has the experience & desire to be a success here with us trying to bounce back , I don"t want a repeat of this seasons failed gambles .
I’m not convinced Val would have that much success with us if he came back. I know it’s worked with Jones at Luton but our forwards are completely different & we’re missing Mowatt. We can’t get away with a 2 man midfield without having someone like Mowatt in there & we’ve only got Morris & Adeboyejo left from last seasons 6 forwards. How’s he going to get Cole, Iseka & Oduor to press? He’s not going to have months or a pre-season to introduce it, we need results here & now.
Val won 4 out of his first 5, and 10 out of first 15 games. He got a tune out of the players straight away. Could he do that again? Who knows, but somethings got to be better than no win in 11, with 3 points in that time - which is what Poya's got. Also, Poya's teams have got 5 goals in that time, with only 1 League goal scored at home.
He did he was brilliant for us but he had players suited to a pressing style. Chaplin & Woodrow had done it previously under Struber. Frieser had been specifically signed for that type of play & Adeboyejo & Thomas were both grafters. I just can’t see how you can transform our current forwards so quickly. I could be wrong, hopefully I am & there’s a quick fix.
