It's another success for the blueprint. Buy someone for £100,000 and sell them for 10X more 18 months later. https://www.devonlive.com/sport/football/transfer-news/torquay-united-set-angus-macdonald-1135120
I don't think you can put selling Winnall and Angus in the same bracket. Winnall really was one of our top goal scorers and best players, and first team regular and we practically watched him leave for peanuts. Angus is a work in progress, currently not getting game time and I wouldn't say he was one of our best players. Good bit of business for me.
Thing is, Macdonald was part of the squad that managed to finish a respectable 14th in the championship. During that time he became an established championship defender and also extended his contract. Which ever way you look at it, 1.5 million is not enough for the type of player I've just described in todays silly money market. 3 million plus would allow us to strengthen no only through a replacement identified by the clubs system but also, increase the overall budget for other areas of the team.. Start playing hard ball please Barnsley.
Seem to remember people being worried at the end of last season when players were leaving that Gus might leave for an offer around that value. So if Hull can find a young established championship defender for that price, well done them. I don't think they will though when you see the daft money being asked for players these days.. Plus if they go away, good for us IMO.
Yeah someone like John Stones or Mason Holgate. Get both for less than 3 million. They’re are bargains out there if you look right, What did we pay for Mawson ? All Hull have do is put a bid in for Angus, see who we bid for as a replacement that just buy him instead, not cost them half as much as what Angus would.
Established Championship defender is a bit of a stretch. Last season, alongside Roberts, he looked very comfortable playing at this level. Since Roberts has left he hasn't been the same player. In my opinion, Jackson, Lindsay and Pinnock all look better defenders at this minute in time. It's obvious that something has gone on behind the scenes for his game time to be so limited, especially with him being the club captain. With that in mind, and the rumours of us attempting to sign an experienced defender, I'd say that a million quid, and a very tidy profit, for McDonald is really good business.
Times change. We didn't have Pinnock and Lindsay then. I also remember last season quite a few writing Jackson off too.
you do realise that Pinnock is injured with a broken foot, so that's him done for this season most likely. If Mills comes then I would let Angus go , but for at least a six figure fee + sell on clause.
Yes I know he's injured. My point isn't about numbers. I'm saying that had we had Pinnock and Lindsay last season, Angus wouldn't have been first choice, so we wouldn't have been so worried about losing him.
BLIVY,, id be more concerned about my club than someone elses grammar MY point has been delivered and is readable wether it has no puncuation, full stops coms or miss-spelling,do yourself a favour buddy and concentrate on the club not be a nit picker grammar police,,certainly more creditable issues than the one YOUR trying to point out,or simple just dont post at all if you have no interest
Its strange that you say he has not been the same player since Roberts left , the same could be said in reverse , Roberts hasn"t been the same player since his partnership with Gus was dissolved , they obviously suit each other
I can't say I've seen much of Roberts since he left, so I can't comment on that, but Roberts was a good defender before we signed Angus.
I think both could be true. It’s very hard to show how good you are individually as a centre back if you don’t know and trust your partner. So much relies on knowing what the other CB will do or their position. Hopefully whoever we sign/keep we can play a settled back 4. Same goes for goalkeeper. Imagine Whoever we played in goal will benefit from a settled back 4.
