    And ultimately, it was.

Can't argue with Cosgrove's performances over the two legs though, he was immense.

Would have liked to have seen him in an attacking team with wingers.

The better half’s son had a season in the A-League with Melbourne Victory. It was one of the few places where football wasn’t behind closed doors during the pandemic. And they paid him very well, put him and his wife and kids up in some plush home and by all accounts, it was a great setup in terms of how the league is run and the attention it gets.

We used to get up at 4am to watch the games on TNT. Victory were the Man Utd of the league so always the live game. It was like the Premier League, the way it was presented and what not. Couldn’t fault it at all.

But he says the standard of coaching and the quality of football was the worst he’s come across. Worse than non league over here even. There’d be a handful of proper players of some degree of quality, and then lots of homegrown talent who wouldn’t make it at Athersley Rec. So the success of your club each season was pretty much dictated by the foreigners you could tie down.

Think his coach was Steve Kean, of Blackburn fame. And they had Rudy Gestede who by then made the BFC version of Mido look mobile.

Missus’ lad scored a few bangers, created loads, but they had a bad old campaign. Great experience though, he said. Playing in 35 degrees every week, half time interviews on TV (which the Premier League now do), a different culture, played in their version of the Champions League too.

Good luck to Sam over there. He’ll be one of the best players and it’s something new and exciting for him. Just because he was **** here doesn’t mean we can’t wish him well!

I don't remember him getting that many chances or playing that many games in succession. Collins and Clarke hung him out to dry a bit and he got a bit frustrated. Hence, stop start loan deals that didn't come off.

Must admit Stephen, when I saw Cleary & Vickers whipping all those crosses in v Fleetwood I did have a little passing thought that Cosgrove might have thrived on that.
DC's attacking 'methods' were never going to suit him, never mind make him look good .

11,700 miles away from Barnsley and yet somehow, still not quite far enough. Do they have a team on the Moon?

I actually think that Cosgrove was at least as bad as Regis.

    Worse, for me.

And remember - big Dave is one of only a few Reds who can say he was promoted to the top flight.

The distance he’s had to travel to find a club that haven’t seen him play!

No, he'd have still jumped into the defender and given a foul away.

Good luck to him. Really wanted him to do well at Barnsley, as I’m sure we signed him to offer us some height and physicality, but apart from the odd moments it didn’t work, and as a result it possibly left us a bit short.

As an idea of the standard, Jerónimo looked good in the A League. I live within walking distance of Coopers Stadium and Adelaide United. Do I go? Nope.

But as others have said; to live in Auckland, visit all around Australia. Why not. One of the perks of being a footballer.
