Maybe the penny might drop eventually that we sell too cheap. Other clubs are not so naive and play hardball with us, never mind moneyball!
Not beyond realms of possibility that the deal is done either in principal or actual but are waiting to announce it on their terms.
Personally I think we’ve had a shocker by sanctioning Moore’s departure prior to securing a replacement as we’ve undoubtedly weakened our bargaining position in what’s an already absurd market. We were never going to get an easy ride given the perceived financial might of our owners plus the owners have said that all funds from player sales will be reinvested back into the playing squad. That means someone like Legia is bargaining with billionaire owners who’ve recently had a cash injection of £2.7m-£4m (depending on which reports you read) that’s earmarked for a replacement. I’m not surprised that they’re playing hardball and I think we’ll continue to see brinkmanship of this nature until the window closes on Thursday.
You're too sensible to post on here. Your views are too realistic and you know where to use capital letters. Stop spoiling everything.
I think a deal has already been done and the club want to announce all the deals at once on Thursday. These new owners are all about the razzmatazz of two or three holding scarves above their heads in front of the East Stand on SSN.
We signed several players in quick succession and didn't unveil them like that, though. Not sure that is our style. As long as they come in I don't mind.
All opinions, but for me the club have played a blinder if the reports of the Moore fee are correct. We were right to snap Wigan's arm off for that. And as for 'easy ride', I'm very confident our owners are prepared to be patient and won't pay in excess of their valuation of the player. They took their time over their purchase of the club and they didn't lose patience when we dropped a division. I expect they'll be happy to bide their time over this one or walk away, as appropriate. And it wouldn't worry me if we didn't sign any extra strikers. We have options already, so far as I can see.
That’s fair, although I note that in January we weren’t able to secure our targets and this left us incredibly short up front with no cover or competition for Moore or Woodrow which led to four 0-0’s on the bounce (as far as I can recall) and severely hampered our promotion push.
In hindsight January’s failure to recruit competition and cover for Moore and Woodrow wasn’t as costly as it might’ve been, though that was in no small part due to the monumental failure of Sunderland and Portsmouth who both bottled their respective run ins.
Ah fair enough. Could you ask your source why we’re even bothering to try to secure a replacement? Surely we can just rely on the fact that we got promoted last season and that we didn’t lose a game when Moore wasn’t playing? It seems odd to waste millions when we could just stick a ridiculous retort up front if required.
