Got one from Smiths last year... about 6quid it cost, it's spiral bound and everything! One of the worst inventions of our time if you ask me, particularly when wagon drivers buy out of the box TomTom systems and then think they can drive a 30 ton wagon over the Strines cos their TomTom told then they could.
I borrowed a mates to go to a Car dealership in Scunny.
It tried to turn me off the ring road in to a field half mile from my turn.
It did tell me when I reached my destination, it was only 150 yards out.

you need to make sure you update it straight away and then u will be amazed how easy travelling is made! If you dont travel much mind it could just be an expensive toy, however imo if i use it 5 times a year i would be happy and it beats the wife sat there turning the mapo in every direction possible and saying " I THINK ITS THIS WAY"!!
I have the RAC sat nav. It get's me to where I want to go with no problems, unless I'm trying to negotiate the new by-pass at Dodworth. Then it thinks I'm in a field. Seriously though, in my line of work and considering all the travelling I do, I wouldn't be without it. You can get Mobile sat nav. It's called Co-pilot and can be linked to a range of mobile phones but mostly PDA's and MDA's.
RE: Wouldnt be without mine what makes em even better is i,ve put all the speed cameras on mine so it serves 2 purposes, doesn,t cost a bean either.
Aye, have used one for a couple of years now. Totally lost without it as I have the same sense of direction as a Paul Reid.
dont be silly. nobody is as bad as that!!! i got a garmin last year and downloaded all speed cameras and places of interest. would be lost without it
Got TomTom on my Nokia N73 and a GPS receiver GPS receiver cost me a tenner and i downloaded TomTom6 cough cough, legally of course!!!!!!! A waste of snap, always loses the signal and then lies about which way to go.
Aye, mine is a little Garmin Streetpilot i3. Had it about 2 years now.
Doesn't accept the existence of the Dodworth by-pass though.

Same here, except on a N70 although receiver cost £20, but it works fine, only occasionally loses signal but usually gets it back quickly. Just battery life thats a problem.
