RE: Agreed

Actually, I too like the West Stand, I think my earlier post may have given the impression I would have wanted it redeveloped, what I was trying to say was I'd rather they redeveloped the West Stand than replacing the entire ground with our version of the Keepyourcaravan. The West Stand has a lot of character, and I'm told the seating in the upper tier is original. People moan about the posts but in my experience, because the seats are not individual, you can slide along to get a better view :pff

    I meant

The club has already paid the price.

It is unlikely BMBC would have contributed had it not seen some benefit.

So no doubt PC and BMBC may, if they see fit, decide to develop some of the land and use the money to improve the stadium which they own.

Dont know the exact state of play

but I believe the bottom half of the car park and the away car park are to be developed with housing.

Dont know if planning permission has been granted but if it has they may well wait on the housing market or a suitable developer before anything moves.

It would be possible to createadditional car parking may behind the East Stand to make up for the losses elsewhere.

As for the type of development, I dunno, I live in Oakwell and already an inordinate number of flats are planned and of the ones that are up, a number remain unsold. I have no objection to development per se but would hope we might see some conventional housing rather than a load of flats and that the council develope some sort of coherant planning policy for the area.(doh)

RE: Dont know the exact state of play

Oh cheers that doesnt make me feel any better.

You live in Oakwell area and are Barnsley FC supporter and Barnsley council have been so successful in their consultation you have no idea whats happening!

Barnsley Council planning appears from the outside to be totally ad hoc and amateur.

Thanks for response though. Think I will write to council and find out if anyone there knows what situation is!

    Just watched MotD

Even slowed down our goal, although Coulson's arm went up it appeared to hit the goalies arm and then came down and hit the goalie on the foot. Own goal.

    Unfortunately

planners have real trouble turning down planning applications that fall within the general planning regulations. I believe there is a reluctance to reject planning as they fear litigation from land owners.

There was a meeting held with the council and the residents but I did not attend because most people who live around here cant see beyond there nose ends and just dont want anything doing no matter what it is and even if it meant an improvement to the area.

We deserved at least a draw anyway, according to N.O.T.W. London edition. Played by far the better more incisive football during the first half, it said.

    RE: Unfortunately

haha maybe mate. I agree a lot of the time planning can be essentially a reactive business. However I would like to see a more sensible proactive approach in Barnsley. Rather than what we have seen for decades, an any development is good approach that gives the impression we should be grateful for anything that comes our way. Admittedly there has been a start with the town centre plans.

But the planning for the Oakwell/Pontefract Road area just shows that there is no coordinated, joined up approach with an area on the door step of the town centre and a key access route!

Grrr I'll stop ranting...oooh Villa goal.

    The Stadium

I agree Doncaster Rovers stadium looked good, like a piece of Ikea furniture, very efficient and cheap. Everyone has a good view, is under cover, but I wouldn't want to swap that for Oakwell ever. I love our ground, I love the West Stand as its a throwback to a bygone age and it reminds us all where we came from. I also like being near town, walkling through the streets looking into people's windows, seeing the rooftops along Grove Street and I would hate to be 'out of town'. Also, like thousands of others I have memories going back over 30 years of that place - my dad took me, now I am taking my lad. Full of history, full of memories, even if someone offered to pay for a brand new stadium I would be absolutely gutted if we ever left Oakwell.

I agree about our goal though, you couldn't tell if it was handball or not.
