    Well I disagree. Post-WW2, Britain was very much in the political and economic backwaters. Empire gone, Commonwealth (relevance - historical connections that is all?). Germany, France, Japan, USSR were far more important in world politics than Britain until the 80s. In 1979 Britain had gone to the dogs - weak politicians, economy in a big hole (much like today). Thatcher put Britain back on the World stage for the first time in decades. I didn't agree with everything she did, but I don't know how anyone can deny the importance of her role in raising Britain's role on the international stage.

    Opinions and all that.
