Mud sticks, they will forever be known as scabs to Barnsley and a few other Yorkshire clubs. That tag will never go away.
well for once I have to agree with you fella but you as well as I know it will not happen. Also the minority of our fans who actually know what the chant is all about will be as small a minority as their fans who will know what's being hurled at them.
Re: well for once I have to agree with you fella So the majority of Barnsley and Nottingham fans dont know what the chant is about ! I'd reckon 99% do know.
Re: well for once I have to agree with you fella they know what its about.... but many have no idea its significance... lads in their late 40's will have been directly affected as they are the ones at 16 who would have been employed in the industry.... so given the crowd size of the various games involved then I would say that its not a very large number who have a clue what's happening. Also by now some of the ones in this day and age will have a very weak link to the industry if any at all. Personally I have a massive link to it all, and saw family/friends suffer badly... I was in the RAF /MoD at the time (1973 -2006) and was staioned over in Germany over the duration of the Strike. Coming home on leave I was stopped on more than one occasion and searched at Police checkpoints... as soon as they heard my tarn accent that was it ...pulled over search on. Fortunately it was a quick stop as when they saw my RAF ID card they let me go on.... I did on a couple or more times toot my horn as I left the checkpoint and wave cheerily to the boys in blue... my daughter always asked me "Dad why are you waving with just two fingers"
Im not from Barnsley, but Featherstone, Pontefract, sharlston, Castleford was a huge mining area. People in these west yorkshire towns seem to have just got on with their lives more and put it behind them better. Its not completely forgotten as you do here the odd grumbles. but my best mate at school at the time, his dad was a scab, he Drinks in the pubs in Fev without a problem. People just seem to have moved on. While for some in Barnsley it seems when the pits closed the world ended. Not saying its true but you get the impression people of Barnsley just sit moaping about rueing the day the pits closed.
Thats his opinion fella I completely disagree and think they should be reminded at every possible opportunity
Damn right NOT, people have believes and this doesn't mean they sit around moaning .My belief is also " once a SCAB "always a SCAB . .. You differ as we also know .
