That really showed what an idiot Griffin is.

Just what had the fact that Jack Straw's father was a concientious objector have to do with the question that was asked?

He was pulled up about it, and rightly so.

I did agree with Griffin on one point

although I'm by no means homophobic and no matter how much I try not to, I still cringe a bit if two blokes start snogging in public :)S)

    I half agree with him

However 2 girls snogging in public is just fine by me. not sure whether the BNP are just opposed to gay men or gay women as well

It's a live debate - make or break time

You go into that kind of environment as a politician acutely aware of your strengths and weaknesses. You anticipate the answers to the questions that you're bound to be asked and your anticipate the opportunities the launch the attacks that it is in your best interest to make. It's a difficult environment to go into - but it's nothing if not fair - you absolutely know what you're going to get. If you're the political leader of the BNP and you've been calling out all and sundry (from every policitical party) for months you better be ready when the time comes.

A recent letter to the Times newspaper from a number of retired generals of the British Army rejected the attempts that Griffin had made to link his party to the achievements of the armed forces - Griffin fired back saying that the army didn't look after soldiers properly and made them buy their own kit, he accused the current rank of senior officers of prosecuting illegal wars in foreign lands and suggested that they should be put on trial in the same manner Nazi leaders had been put on trial in Nuremburg after the war. Griffin spoke about giving the senior officers 'rough polictics' - 'if they want rough politics, they'll get rough polictics'. It would be ironic to make such a statement and then throw his arms up and suggest that a live TV debate (which he has been calling for for some time) is 'unfair' (poor poor Griffin).

The man has completely over estimated his own ability. He can't hold ground with the big boys in politics and he will always remain only an appealing prospect to those feeble of mind enough to believe that rumour which comes out every year that Oxford Council has cancelled Christmas in order to avoid causing offences to Muslims and from now on there will be no Christmas lights etc etc etc.

BNP = politics of hate and fear. End of.

RE: I'm upto 30 minutes into the program on BBC Iplayer

BNP got no more votes in the Euro elections this time than they did in the previous Euro elections.Their percentage of the vote was higher because fewer people voted overall , so under the PR system for Euro Elections BNP got seats. In a general election they won't stand a prayer of getting a seat in the first past the post system

    really?
As an excerise to make Nick Griffin look stupid it was well edited and well prepared by the powers that be as it had the effect required. But to say it was ten nil was a bit of over the top comment. Has jack Straw answered the question on Labour and immigration? I thought at times old Dimbles jumped in too quick and too aggressivly for an 'impartial' host. Also, Griffin talked about the non promotion of sex in primary schools and what people do behind closed doors, cant knock the man for that. Also, the civil partnership's, if i remember correctly the tory representative on the panel didnt sound big on them but when Griffin went on about it they even managed to drag a butch bird into it.
All in all, there was only one person sat on that panel this morning to come out in any sort of positive light. Bonnie Greer.

    I found Straw embarrassing too

For a lifetime professional politician,I found his performance to be very lightweight, possibly because he too has changed his position,in Jack's case from radical left,to pillar of the establishment,Chris Huhne appeared as though
wanted to be the chief dragonslayer, and seemed over bombastic,Baroness Warsi did OK,apart from the pointless
correction that legally there are no bogus asylum seekers,I agree with those that think the only person that came out
    well was Bonnie Greer.

RE: it was all set up

You'll find not only the panel is picked by the beeb, but so is the audience. Just to make sure of bias. Not worth a toss that program ....Unless you personally know any point or statement to be true.....then question everthing...Just My View

Audience wasn't picked for last nights show

You apply to be in the audience, get given a date to participate, and who happens to be on the show is just random.

The panel might have been picked by the BBC on purpose, but the majority of the audience just happened to be there for the Nick Griffin show
