If the club let Josh (and Robbo and Marley for that matter) go without offering him at least the same as Hammill gets, who he is infinitely more valuable to us on the pitch than in this league, then it's just plain mismanagement. That's imho, of course, but it comes from someone who has not jumped on the "criticise the club for X and Y in January" bandwagon. I don't want to go all "Hemmsy" but having seen every minute of every game this season the hard core of Josh/Robbo/Angus is why we are where we are, and why the flair players were able to thrive earlier in the season. Keep that trio together and we will never be easy to beat and always have a chance to stay in this league. (I have no problem with Adam by the way, just describing the relative impact on this league).
I don't have a problem with flogging players at the right price but to give them away for the sake of a couple of grand a week drives me nuts . I'm no expert but im sure Josh would have asked where the dotted line was if he had been offered 5k a week last summer . Same as Marley who came from Inverness so I'm guessing he's probably on about 2 grand . Put yourselves in the players shoes , the service they have given to the club over the last couple of seasons has been outstanding . The club is taking the piss a bit really. Its cutting your nose to spite your face. They should stop faffing about and get them on the same as Hammill.
Am sure I heard somewhere josh was on 4 k a week , hope we persuade him to stay with a new contract and Marley too
During any negotiation there comes a time when we have to say NO. How does anyone know we have not reached that point?
We don't know how low that point is though. If it's an extra £250 quid a week we might as well not bother.
Which value of "worth" should we be paying? What he thinks he's worth! What others think he's worth! What BFC think he's worth!
If that's the case then it is what it is. We'll know either way in the summer. I'm not one of the "world ended in January" brigade btw, just hoping we can afford to up our game a little bit in terms of what we can offer. We could be "more competitive" and still fall well short of what others are offering. Sent from my SM-G850F using Tapatalk
You're talking as if we're big spenders just because our owner is wealthy. Unfortunately we are not. It's true he is worth around that amount of money, but what he does is subsidise the club and put in about £4m a year to keep us afloat. He doesn't spend big fees or wages at all. Our budget is bottom 4 or 5 in the division, our net spend on fees this season is around -£1m. Our transfer record is £1.5m and hasn't been broken since 2001! I would guess our wage bill is a bit higher than yours, but ultimately we're similar sized clubs. To suggest (think you are anyway) that we're underachieving because we have a 900 million pound owner is nonsense, we are punching well above our weight. On Scowen, I would be surprised if it happened because as you have all said I thought he'd rather stay at Barnsley than sign for us but I suppose how much money he has been offered. Wasn't there reports that he wanted to go down south again?
Fair comment really and also Simon Grayson should be up for manager of the year just slightly behind Hecky. Btw thank you for acting like total tools last year whilst trying to smash our town up in your stupid bowler hats .
Hey up Nobber alert, we've got a Lasher wannabe on here How did a Preston fan find out about this board! And Plob, I think this bowler hat thing is their 'Gentry day' which they do every season in an away match. Theres no excuse though for them behaving like they did at the time.
I know what it is mate and if it's supposed to be their ' big day out' they should act with a bit more grace .
To be fair mate, this very reasonable sounding PNE fan is hardly responsible for the behaviour of a few idiots who also follow his club.
Gentry Day was located further away to Fulham this season, with the increased distance and cost acting as a sieve to filter out a lot of the dickheads. It's a day everyone looks forwards to in the PNE calendar, but unfortunately it has become an excuse for some to just get too pissed to stand and suddenly they act like utter dickheads, being completely disrespectful in another town/city. It would be great every year to have Gentry Day at a close game. 2015 as you know was Barnsley and 2016 was at Bolton. I'm sure the organisers would love to be as inclusive as possible by having it quite close every year but unfortunately on those 2 occasions there was some trouble and too many morons turned out.
You don't have to make any excuses for your morons mate. We have plenty of them ourselves, as do most clubs. Sent from my SM-G850F using Tapatalk
