That's exactly the idea, to pressure people into buying one. I've often thought the same about how many do we actually sell at the higher price. I know lots of clubs use this marketing tactic but that doesn't excuse it.
Can you not understand why he can't say what the figures suggested are given they haven't been signed off yet? Come on, be reasonable.
I agree. I reckon more people DONT renew because of early bird pricing than DO renew because of it. But if that's not the case then the only real reason it's done is to sneak in a price increase without it sounding like they have because they just say ah but for 6 hours in April it was cheaper. Not a dig at Barnsley as such though because pretty much all clubs do it. If they do want to do early bird offerings then in future may I suggest that they announce them much much earlier in the season. January or something. And give people till April to pay. That's much more reasonable and helps people budget. Another suggestion is bringing back a saving stamp kind of thing where fans can pay money into the club as and when they want to pay for season tickets up front. Comes with many benefits for the club and helps fans who can't budget very well to have the money when the time comes around.
Yes I can definitely understand why he can't say but then I don't understand why the club has a meeting to tell it's special fans information much earlier than anyone else. It's a dig at them not him. Basically the meetings are supposed to be there to relay information back to groups but that isn't how they appear to be being used. they seem to be being used to make certain fans feel special and important and given secret information.
https://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/news/2019/april/seasonal-prices-201920/ I was expecting those sort of prices this time. Maybe 10/20 pounds more.
Maybe you need to be clearer then rather than arguing with the wrong person about it who is just feeding back what he's allowed to say. And he's on the board of the Supporter's Trust, it makes sense for certain things to be run by them first. I'm sure we're not the only club that does that.
I’ve never liked the early bird thing. Puts undue pressure on people to part with money they might not have or at least really didn’t ought to commit, for a product they have little idea of the quality they will receive. This year we won’t know which league we will be playing in or even the first idea of what the team will look like. Recent results and performances have started to change my outlook if I’m honest. Call me fickle but actually seeing some effort to turn things around, some players brought in that improve us, makes me a bit more likely to renew after saying I had no interest in doing so. Relegation won’t really affect my decision, but squad changes both in and out, and things that may or may not come out of the club will. To be honest what job I have and our family income will dictate a lot. But the early bird thing is bull excrement. Scrap it. Anyone buying a season ticket in a particular area should have the same price structure.
If we get relegated, I won't be renewing my season ticket. If we stay up I won't be renewing my season ticket. If we get a new style of flatbread, I won't be renewing my season ticket. If there's Regime change, I will be renewing my season ticket - no matter what the price. See you all at Bumhole Lane.
Two other things. Did I imagine it or did Khaled commit not to increase prices regardless of what division we were in during his last q&a? And a suggestion too. Include reserve games (or whatever we call them these days) in the cost of season tickets. It makes fans feel like they're getting a little extra without really costing the club anything. It also gives extra support to the fringe players.
I think so but in the past what they did is charged a modest amount per game and gave them free to season ticket holders. It just made it feel more like fans were getting something and there were quite a few people attended that year. They had games on the main pitch and opened up the deathtrap of a west stand
Indeed, still I'm not a potential customer of the clubs. I am for Barnsley and i find early bird distasteful.
I'd expect there to be a level of 'apology pricing' built into next season, based on the shambles of this season. They've already lost a number of renewals for next season, based on the way the club has been run, but there's a chance that a ridiculously well priced offer may tempt some people to continue. The pricing needs to anticipate League One football, and staying in the Championship would be deemed as a bonus. From a personal point of view, they also need to put £750k back into the football club before any of the above would have any relevance to me.
The early bird pricing timing was brought up by the fan representatives there. Someone also made the point we’ve had it consistently around this time for how many seasons? It shouldn’t be too much of a surprise.
I don't mind Early Bird. It's not a shock when it happens as we always know when it happens. It benefits the club to benefit fans who are happy to give them their cash as soon as they want it so they have a better idea of their budget.
They only asked for it not to be published until they’ve finalised the sign off. You be the first to be moaning if we said it was x and it turned out to be y. So you don’t think the club should engage with fan groups to take feedback on the season ticket offer? We’ve previously asked them to go back season to tickets and not over promise and under deliver and they have taken this on board. You’re quick to moan about everything and anything but any attempt by people to address these concerns and you say its meetings to make people special and feel important even though you yourself never try and address any of the issue’s yourself. There was another meeting lined up with supporters where im sure similar conversations would have happened if Khaled wasn’t ill. It was open to anyone. I assume you had a ticket?
I’m not sure that there is anything that can be done to persuade me to renew. However, I do hope that the fans who have the stomach for another season are not “penalised” in terms of cost, because of what will surely be an inevitable drop in numbers. Anyone who renews should get a medal!!
