It is very worrying when this happens at the time a serving General says the Army would take action against JC if he tried to downsize them. There were, since substantiated, rumours that the military approached Lord Mountbatten to lead a coup against Harold Wilson's Government in the 60s. Mountbatten would have none of it but it seems there is still a rogue element in the high ranks of the Military. At the time of great division in the Country over Brexit it has to be a very worrying time.

As opposed to the two or three previous PM's who have led the UK into various foreign wars making us all less safe and introducing Islamic terrorism to the UK?

Some people on here are thick as ****.

And which government has slashed UK armed forces? Oh, Tories.

You're a serving member but you think they should be ashamed? They shot at a target. Yes they were wrong and they will be disciplined but they are young men having some fun. Do you understand squaddie humour? They would have meant no malice whatsoever. It was just ill judged by them and by the senior ranks on the ranges with them.

All my days are hard. It is something you keep saying to me without anything to back it up. My politics really have nothing to do with this, I'd have said the same no matter who was on the target. I just think it was some young squaddies letting of some steam.

How were they a threat to us? They had no weapons to reach us even if they were indeed threatening us, which they weren’t, ever.

The US used 9/11 to further their own ends which included invasion of sovereign nations that had never even said boo to them. They wanted Saddam and his regime out, they wanted Afghan regime change too. So that they could control the flow of oil, take the gold and their poppy fields. And used Bin Laden as a stooge. The fall guy.

He was from Saudi. The alleged terrorists who pulled off 9/11 were said to be Saudi. Why didn’t we attack Saudi then? The nation that accounts for 18% of the United States’ wealth. The Saudis who stone folk to death, chop off hands, murder folk who sleep with the same sex. Those Saudis. Those who Theresa May welcomed last year. Those who JC opposes.

Took me until my teens to realise that yes, WE are the baddies.

You can’t carpet bomb countries randomly killing innocent civilians and then whinge when families of those murdered pick up weapons and fight back. Or complain that “there’s too many foreigners here” when so many are here fleeing the mess we caused in their nations.

Il reply once to you. Understand it? I’ve been immersed in “military humour” for over 28 years now,for the most part very good natured but that also includes the racism, bigotry, intolerance and sexism. They chose one politician, I of course know this didn’t mean they were of a mind to inflict malice towards him but in a day when right wing (of which the military firmly is) lunatics are planning to kill mp’s it gives reason to their illogical arguments.

They’ve been stupid, they should be embarrassed as it was unnecessary, has caused extra admin and is no doubt a hinderance operations

Wow! That’s a pretty major rewriting of history. No offence mate but even a basis knowledge of the 2WW would tell you that the allied victory was primarily down to the Soviets. Might not be palatable, particularly after most of us grew up during the Cold War, but true i’m afraid.

As an ex Service man, and extremely talented sniper, misen, i doubt what picture you put up would improve anybody's shooting ability. Its like anything else in life you can either do it well, or just get on with it and do ya best. Light hearted fun, without any malice, they will be disciplined i assure you of that much. The TOFFS at the top will not be Amused

I accept that the squaddies are young men letting off steam. But, at a time when one MP has been murdered & someone has been convicted of planning to murder another MP, this is a stupid action (at the very least) from professionals! Imagine the headlines about this in the Scum, Daily Fail, Express, Telegraph! They’ll love it - after all, it’s only banter, right? Now imagine their headlines if the photo had been of May, Mogg or Boris!

As a general point, there’s a bit of an over reaction on here. I thought the regiment involved was the Paras? And as any ex military will tell you - to many of the, are selfish bunch of *******. I had two Brothers, both invalided out of the Army after serving in NI. No regiment wanted to go in after the Paras had done their stint because they knew they were going to suffer casualties because of the way they treated the Civi population.

If it was any other regiment they would be ashamed of that conduct.

Maybe you have forgotten what the young junior ranks see as fun, I don't know. What I do know is that when squaddies do this kind of thing they do it for fun and banter however misplaced that might be; they don't do it for any more sinister reasons. There is racism, bigotry and intolerance in the Army, as there is in most walks of life, but it is getting a lot better than it used to be. This was almost certainly none of those things. You're right though that these are sensitive times and they will be disciplined for it.

That's fine and war is wrong and should only be a last resort. But with leaders like Putin and the Korean nut job it's important to have a strong well equipped army. I know this goverment have made cuts to the military but I wouldn't trust corbyn either.

Good post, but I would point out Thatcher is already dead & I doubt anyone would be very sad to see the end to the Orange One.
