If he had been born in barnsley this fact would be irrelevant and we would just keep singing he's one of our own... Cant see us beating leeds either quality side so probley end up least 7 doesn't make him a bad manager in my eyes though.
Of course he's not a bad manager, never said I thought he was. He has a very difficult task keeping this side up. Very hard Job when you have a good team and sell half of it off.
Why? I assume we are talking about Hecky because he used to manage us in this league in a very similar situation to the one we are now. I brought it up because I'm curious if the same people who were critics of Hecky that relegation season will give Stendel the same stick if our season pans out in a similar vein. Don't know a lot about the situation at Hibs to say he is failing. A quick looks shows they ended last season badly, but the perspective on that is the Scottish league splits at the end so all the last 5 games were against sides at the top. The start this season is 4 points from 4 games, seems most managers are only ever one bad run away from the sack so who could be under pressure.
I don't think Stendel will get cut as much slack as Hecky got from the fans. He won't be allowed a full year of not winning many games, regardless of whether they're his signings or not.
I get it was a calendar year but the fact it was split over 2 seasons makes it different doesn't it. The 2nd half of the first season promoted played out to a dead rubber. We sold our best players off and abandoned the outside shot of the play offs. So we had very little to play for come March. On the flip side of the point you make a out people having more patience for Hecky (which I don't disagree with) I wonder if by the same token our owners won't be given the same benefit either? As such maybe Stendel won't get that much stick if we do struggle but comments like "best transfer window ever" may get regurgitated.
The owners have been under scrutiny right from the off, and will continue to be until we see a bit of success other than getting out of league one.
I was critical of hecky because of the way we played even after winnall and conor were sold we had Watkins,Armstrong and bradshaw who could play upfront but we persisted with 451, for the 2nd half of the season we won 3 games 2 against relegated sides (rotherham and Blackburn) we had davies, yiadom,Robert's,Kent, scowen, matty james, bradshaw,Watkins,Armstrong etc it's a squad stendel could only dream of the signs were there already. The season after hecky persisted with the one up top(which is okay if you want to play football), the football was awful hoofing balls to tiny tom bradshaw, playing players out of position constantly, slating the young players in public, blaming everyone else, changing the team every week, loaning mowatt out, playing jackson and McDonald before pinnock. I think it split the fan base at the end j think it was a blessing in disguise leeds took him he then turned a club in 6th or 7th well in the play off mix with one of the most expensive teams in the league into relegation from....
It did split the fan base, I myself had mixed feelings at the time, then Morias turned up! (That's a thread all on it's own) Genuinely not wanting to argue with anyone just find it a interesting subject. Who is ultimately responsible for results. Given our model of a coach and recruitment team is it right that all the emphasis falls to one person when things go well or bad? I don't remember anyone complaining when we loaned Mowatt out and when Pinnock did play that year he looked poor. How many players have we played out of postion so far this season? Upto now i would agree this squad doesn't look as good as the relegation season one (hopefully they will improve) but is that on Stendel? Was it on Hecky? Many a debate was had about that too as I recall.
Cant be bothered getting into the rest it's been done to a death and I have told me thoughts enough times but pinnock never looked poor he was always overlooked until jackson was injured and our captain McDonald had a fall out with hecky he was the forced to be played got motm v preston at home scored the equaliser and then the winner at the SOL (our 1sg win for 2 months) pinnock then broke his toe in training and shortly after hecky did one. Pinnock was is and always will be a better defender than McDonald and jackson
Not sure about that Fitzy. I think most fans, with a modicum of intelligence can see Stendel is having to Coach with one arm tied behind his back and a range of Club ‘policies’ that verge on the bizarre.
I'd like to think I'm one of those fans you mention, but I don't expect my empathy with Stendels difficult job to have any bearing on how long it takes for others to be on his case. Speaking of his difficult job, I was working for a leeds fan this week and we were talking about the game and how we were going about our business. He asked if our owners were just wary of the FFP rules, and couldn't believe it when I told him about our age policy, sale of centre halve pairing and top goal scorer. He thought it was crazy.
Kilmarnock got knocked out of Europe by a part-time League of Wales team. They've put Meckinhibsbottom in his place today, though.
Leeds sold their star defender in Jansson, replaced him with a loan kid from Brighton. They flogged their top scorer in Roofe. Their star youngster Clarke was sold. They lost Saiz. And sold lots of promising youths. Because they’re skint. What was your mates thoughts on that?
Can I also point out it’s boring referring to Moore as our top scorer when Woodrow got the same amount.
