Seeing as most of us agree we need a centre half

    Ooh Gerry Gerry.

Arry, Arjan, Arry, Arjan, Arry, Arjan, Arjan de Zeeuw.

Special mentions for Tiler, Futcher and Davis, too.

And retarded mentions for Vaughan, Brown and Bishop.

Very tough - the one position where we seem to have had consistent quality

Started watching in 1987, so here goes....

    Paul Futcher
    Mark Smith
    Gerry Taggart
    Carl Tiler
    Adie Moses
Chris Morgan (yes, I did say it)
    Arjan De Zeeuw
    Jason Shackell
    Malcolm Shotton
    Steve Davis

Also honourable mentions for Gary Fleming and Matty Appleby, though imho they were better in other positions.

As a first choice pairing, it would have to be two from Futcher, Taggart and De Zeeuw. Though when we went on a run of eight matches without conceding under Mel Machin, I seem to remember that our pairing was Smith and Tiler though I could be wrong.

Machin's worst mistake - releasing Futcher and Baker
Bassett's worst mistake - thinking Tuttle, Chettle, Brown and Van Der Laan were better centre halves than De Zeeuw

Chris Hedworth, Andy Duggan and Mike Flynn. With Hedworth playing in goal of course.

Harry also thought Van Der Laan was a better option up front than Shipperley, Dyer, Hignett and Sheron quite often. I also remember the crowd once screaming for Hignett's introduction, only for Harry to fetch on Geoff Thomas..... who then grabbed the winner in stoppage time.

    Football eh?

Jeeeeez. Mike Flynn. I'd forgot about that pile of utter *****. Made Charlie Bishop look like Lucio.

    Re: What a great question

arjan de zeeuw wasn,t that good for us in the premier league but he got better when he left, wouldn,t get in my top 10.

He was either out injured or playing injured the majority of the Premier League season. The year we went up he was immense.
