RE: It's a well known fact that the more you charge the more you get in revenue But the average wasnt £18.00 last season. We budgeted for 1st round yes, but we still have debts to try and overcome, therefore if we get a crowd of 8000 people who have paid on average £15.00 that is £120,000. If we reduce the prices to an average £7.50 we would have to get a crowd of 16000. Dont think that is realistic do you?
Without offending you mate... Surely it cost you more to go to bradford, ie £15 plus travel as apposed to 18 (was it?) against bradford at home and a shorter trip... Does this mean you live in Bradford... but then again we have had a run of around 3/4 games in quick succession, so can understand you missing a game or two if you are hard pressed, but the above doesn't seem logical (unless you also got free travel, in that case can I join you) Anyway, support your idea of reduced prices now and again, especially where there is a run of home games all at once, after all, they didn't budget for the FA cup, so they have already got to be up on this cash wise, (unless theirs a massive bonus payment)
ok then walsall game everyone knows that the fans can be the 12th man right?
if we win that game then we get £40k. I dont know about you but i'd be willing to take the risk of losing out on a little bit of money and lets be reight, at the end of the day it would only be a little bit of money after walsall and the fa had took their cuts if it gave us a greater chance of going through, created an atmosphere, was good PR for the club, won back some fans (customers) and simply created good feeling in barnsley.
on small risk against such big gains. i guess it depends a lot on ambition doesnt it

It won't get through will it Charging more does not necessarily make you more money. It just doeasn't. People can no longer afford the product and stay away from it. This is what is happening. This is why, despite providing better entertainment, we have fewer customers than we've had for 10 years. And we didn't charge £15 for the last FA Cup game we charged f.uking £17. And football is not all about making money. It's supposed to be a community club. You reduce the prices for one game as a good will gesture to fans around the Christmas period and maybe we'll get a performance like last night. The fans that took advantage of the reduced price admission are then more likely to return for regular priced games. Or we could just keep increasing prices until no one turns up at all.
we are already 50 grand up on the budget at least 40k so far in prize money plus gate receipts from three games.
RE: It won't get through will it You havent responded to my example figures Jay. Why not, you cant argue against logic eh?
it isnt on average 15 quid you have to take childrens prices and OAP's prices into account as well. but to keep it simple like you have done we will use your figures as being correct.
put the average price at say 10 quid instead of 7.50 and it looks a lot more realistic. We would need 10,000 fans through the door.
Ok so lets just imagine that we dont get 10,000, we only get 9,000. That means that we have potentially lost £30k right? Wrong. We will have lost £10k after walsall took their third and the FA took theirs. Or will we have lost 10k? no we wont, we will have 1,000 extra fans in the stadium, that is extra refreshments sold, more programs sold, more merchandise sold and even more tickets for upcoming games sold because fans will be walking past the ticket office and as you know we cannot buy tickets online and people are reluctant to pay the booking fee over the phone so having them stood outside the ticket office is bound to increase sales.
Let us not also forget that an extra 1,000 barnsley fans inside the stadium will mean more fans to back the team and therefore an increased chance of beating walsall and gaining £40k from the win. Oh hang on, that now puts us at £30k UP on if we had charged an average of 15 quid and we havent even added on the 'add-on' sales to that figure yet. Lets also not forget that there will be an atmosphere inside oakwell and so these extra fans that turned up will be more likely to reappear at future games. Ok so only 50 of them come back every week for the rest of the season. That is 50x18 quid (to make it simple) £900 extra PER GAME. we have 12 home games left, that is an extra 10k (more than that actually) more throughout the season. Hang on, we were only 10k down on gate receipts to start with werent we? That means that even if walsall stuff us we still havent lost anything and have gained extra fans.
Can you just run the big loss past me again please? I appear to have missed it.

RE: It won't get through will it Your example figures are crap. For a start we charged a minimum of £17 against Bradford not £15 as you suggested. Secondly I wasn't advocating a half priced ticket, merely a reduced price ticket. Thirdly, as I stated, a football club isn't all about making money and certainly not from just one game. Speculate to accumulate. Get the fans in for one game and they're more likely to return, giving the club more revenue in the long term. Anyway, some figures for you Mr man of logic. The attendance for the home game against Bradford was 7,051 (only 1000 more than against a far less glamourous side in the first round) Ticket prices for adults were £17, £18 and £19 so an average of £18 £18 * 7,051 = £126918 If we charged £12 in all areas we would have to get an attendance of 10,577 to eclipse that figure. Do I think we could do that with a bit of marketing. Yes, I do. It's very realistic. Don't you agree?
RE: It won't get through will it Wouldn't the other team have to agree with a reduction in the Cup game? I don't think the prices will be reduced. We're on a good run and they'll perceive a 3rd round cup game as a decent attraction. Those two factors are enough to draw in part time scumbags without cutting prices.
I don't think they will either But I don't wear the hat of corporate colin. What I think they will do and what I think they should do are as far apart as you can get. One thing I know for sure is that they've had less money out of me this season than in any other season I can remember and that is directly linked to the pricing policy. I can't afford some games, so I don't go. Simply haven't got the money. You may say I should save my money for the next game, but I've found that £15 can burn a whole in your pocket and I invest in some pants and socks or a sandwich or summat. £20 is too much for a football game at this level.
My pant collection Has increased significantly this season. No longer am I the man of one pair of tatty pants. Me and our lass to the pictures plus two pizzas and two beers. Twenty English pounds. Me on me todd to watch Barsley v Scunny. Exactly the same price. How do I go about justifying the prics of the latter? I just haven't got an argument for it.
you know them moments where you say summat and then straight after you wish you'd kept your gob shu thats one of them moments
