If they’ve sold out their allocation and you can pay on the gate it’s a recipe for trouble.

Would imagine it will just change to all ticket now and no pay on the day unless you purchase in advance and have a previous booking history online.

Are you a mystic, because as yet we certainly don’t know for fact that we have ‘failed to shift 5000 tickets’ why would you be embarrassed because if the apathy is as you say it is, then folk will understand why???

Doubt fans of other clubs will understand why. We’ve been in the playoffs last two seasons. Things aren’t great for sure with regards to recruitment but it’s hard to explain such a low gate at home to a local rival from a higher league.
5k is optimistic by the way. Take a look at the ticket map.

It may also demonstrate that the spiralling cost of merely living and breathing has an impact on which games people attend. It's a knife edge struggle for many and £19 is a lot to pay out when the gas bill is due

I wouldnt have thought this game is high up on the United fans list but theyre still coming.& the cost of living is same for them.

Plus travel costs for them. It’s a local pride thing. I get the money side for some folk but £17 these days for a match is pretty low and is why Sheff U have sold out. I honestly think if it had been a tenner a lot of ours wouldn’t have bothered. This Sky + is going to cause damage to a few clubs and we’re looking like being one of the worst affected.

Personally I don’t care what other fans think about our attendances. Why is it hard to explain to them when you post your reasons why on here? If you want to banter with them about our attendance just say well it is your cup final, simples:)

Good opportunity to make it a perfect 10 without victory.

I think they're all contributing factors. I think the biggest one is a general feeling of indifference and disappointment around the club. There's just a total malaise and lack of excitement. The either refusal or inability to fix an issue with the team that has been glaringly obvious since Spring. The only visible member of the ownership team seems to enjoy point-scoring over the fanbase rather than fixing issues. The infrastructure which over 20 years of Cryne/BMBC ownership has been left to rot and crumble. Whats to be excited about?

I'm going, but it will mean leaving work early when we're super busy, getting home nigh on midnight, 30 odd quid on tickets for the 3 of us plus another tenner in petrol.

I'm lucky enough not to be particularly squeezeed by the current economy at the moment, and i already have my season ticket, but they will not get one more discretionary penny from me until they sell up if they don't take proper action to SiGn A sTrIkEr this week.

Fair play to them, they've never sold that end out in the past from memory, and I even recall them bringing fewer than 2k when we played them on a Monday night on Sky about 15 years ago.

I get the feeling there won't be 5,000 on the away end though. Because of points systems, and getting priority for tickets, fans often buy tickets for games they don't intend to go to, so that they have the points for a game with a lower allocation.

My cousin who supports Wednesday said to me that he's gone to games on his own before, just so that he can ensure he's got the points for a game with a smaller allocation. A lot even buy tickets, get the points, then sell the ticket on Facebook.

That being said, 5,000 for a 2nd round cup fixture which is on Sky is a great effort. I've been to Reading in the same round before and been on the away end with less than 300 Reds fans.

Remember this when we played Swansea in FA Cup in their first prem season. Sure tkts were about £10, they sold about 3k and about 500 turned up as they all wanted points for future away games.

Still think £17 is reasonable- I paid £22 to watch Halifax v Solihull yesterday. All tickets (home and away) cash only on the turnstiles. #tax fiddle

Be £19 if you pay at the gate. Reckon we might have plenty of sheff utd fans in home ends with pay on the day seemingly being available despite the away end being sold out.

Great post but I think that sentiment goes beyond football. I've started that attitude to going to the pub, races etc. You have to weigh up enjoyment value v the financial hit. If it isn't worth while stay in.

Worrying times. If this isn't enough of a wake-up call to the board then nothing will be.

Just over 18 months ago we played Wednesday at home on a Tuesday night, full priced tickets, the game was live on sky and we sold Oakwell out.

The club are a complete shambles now, with a serious lack of ambition. That's why fans are turning their backs.
