RE: He signed us some decent players from Man City. I always thought Fleming was quality - the last in a long line of great moustachioed Reds heroes. He also signed Taggart, which was a masterstroke. Unlike our last signing from MCFC........
I think your are correct , Fleming was the last to sport a 'tache Oh for the days of defence including Baker , Cross and Joyce.
Tache Tastic!

I have been one of the few who has supported the sacking of Ritchie and the appointment of Davey (ok, not my first choice but could see what he had brought to the table after first 2 games). Got nowt against Ritchie, likeable bloke and exciting footy but we were on a one way ticket back to League 1. He was way too naive as a manager to keep us up. His football was all out attack, which is ok if you have world class defenders, and his lack of movement in the transfer market just made the situation worse as he had only 1 team and 1 plan. Davey has brought solidity and a team understanding about defending. He has brought in 7 new players and so far only 1 looks like a mistake (dont need to say which one). For me he has done everything well so far. As a new team to the div we are always gonna have weeks were we are outclassed but we look like staying up now and that is surely all we can expect.
Exactly, plus he had Arturo Lupoli lined up to come in on loan until Lupoli changed his mind at the last minute.
Also don't forget that as soon as AR left Shep raised £250K by selling McIndoe before splashing £100K on McCann and £50K on Mattis. He will raise the balance for Ferenczi by selling Hayes, I reckon. Then we should be due another £200K in the summer as part of the Flinders deal. So we haven't really put that much in yet.

There's no doubt that Richie stayed too loyal for too long with some players and the gung ho style, particularly away from home was a mistake. Also, players were available who would have improved the team even on Shep's tight arsed budget. My view is that Richie thought that with promotion and all the talk from above about "Bums on seats players" he'd be able to sign decent Championship quality players and not have to rummage around in the bargain bins. Whether Richie was specifically promised this is unclear but i think when he realised he wasn't getting serious money to spend he chucked the teddy out and signed no-one. I'd like to hear Richie's side of things and we can't really judge who's to blame until this happens. No doubt AR's saving it all up for his blockbuster autobiography! That said you can't knock Davey, he's got a load of new lads together playing well and was dignified and determined throughout the flak he got after Weds, Southend int cup and Colchester. It's obvious he's got most of the squad on his side and he's now given us a real chance.
