Shocking decision

In my opinion no way was it a red card. The referee was shocking all game no consistency whatsoever. Cavare gets taken out from behind with the ball out of play and nothing given. Green comes on and gets kicked from pillar to post nothing given. Mcgeehan very lucky with the stamp on their left back too.

 

Be surprised if we didn't appeal it

 

Today shows what we are going to have to contend with week in week out with Championship teams should we go up.

 

Dangerous tackle, but would normally have been a yellow with most refs

 

It was a red sadly, player made a meal out of it but luckily the players leg wasn’t planted and very minimal contact. But he was high and not in control, which these days is a red. Feel for the lad, but it’s a learning experience for him

 

I was fuming at the time, but now we've won it was a definite red .

 

Definite yellow, but i can see why the ref gave Red, real time looks worse than the reply.
I don't think we should contest it, a lesson learned for brown. Time for Green to step up.

 

I think both Green and Bahre can fill that spot tbh, not worried,

Doesn’t need to be, it’s enough to be reckless and not in control of the challenge. Red card.

 

My point was he was in control as other foot was not near player - ie he had control over other foot

We get that sort of tackle against us week in week out and it’s never given the same decision. Was a yellow all day long nothing more or less.

 

Thought the card was definitely a yellow no matter how many times I see it.. That said the ref only can give what he sees...in real time (Un like us having the advantage of different angle shots and slow motion from the many cameras. If I was the club I'd take a long hard look at it Monday and decide if to appeal... They will also have an indecation of what's in the refs report too. On the so called stamp . Caught on camera the player down didn't react as if it was a stamp of any great weight or intention . It was the sky commentators who made a mountain out of a mole hill for me, by trying to suggest otherwise... Anybody who's played football will have been trod on at times... Mind you I grew up when tackles at thigh height were deemed acceptable if you got the ball .. Lol... Older readers will no doubt agree lol

 

Red card. Can't do that anymore.

 

I still think it was harsh at the time and maybe worth a yellow. Brown's first touch let him down meaning he had to stretch his foot out to make the tackle.

Be surprised however if we did appeal it.

On Mcgeehan I think it looked naughty.
Hope nothing comes of it as a ban for him would be a blow to us more than missing Brown.

 

It’s amazing how times have changed, at one time players would have got a balllacking for not making that challenge which is now considered dangerous and yet today’s players seem to pick up more injuries even tho they are more protected.

 

It's because our players are too honest and don't roll around on the floor making a meal out of situations. I wish we would become a bit more streetwise.

 

In which case the one on Cavare should have been an ultra-red. That was the most reckless and out of control challenge in the game - the ball was out of play, they were a yard over the goal line and laddo deliberately kicks Dim from behind where he can't see and has no chance of defending himself whilst careering into the hoardings and tv furniture. Totally reckless, totally pre-meditated and totally out of control.

(Edit - The one from Hart on Kenny was even worse!)

You could argue that "the letter of the law" allows the ref to send Brown off if he sees it that way but to me it was neither reckless nor out of control. He stretched for a ball and got it, their lad spontaneously jumped up for no reason at all and landed clutching his leg where the ball, not Jacob, had brushed him. Jacob was totally focused on the ball throughout - it wasn't even forceful, let alone reckless.

However, if the ref saw it as such and applied "the letter of the law" what really galls me is that merely seconds latter and right in front of him Lindsay is blatantly shoved at a corner and he 'applies' nothing. Similarly, at one of the early corners in the second half, the Southend defender had so much of Liam's shirt he was practically wearing it - no letter of the law applied there, again, despite it being blatantly obvious.

As rightly pointed out by others in the thread its these inconsistencies that make it seem partial against us. We've had that challenge a hundred times against us and the perpetrator not sent off, we see far more forceful and reckless challenges such as Longstaff for Newcastle yesterday attract lesser sanction. You do get the feeling that something's not quite right. Remember this is the same ref that booked half a dozen of our lads at Oxford, even though we were kicked from pillar to post by them for most of that game.

Lastly, do we really want a game where fans on a 500 mile round trip at vast expense potentially see a game ruined just because a player controlled the ball with the underside of his boot? I know I don't and bravo to DS and the lads for then demonstrating a master class in how to thrive with ten men and pull off a stunning win against the odds.

 

There are of course other situations the referee didn’t see or called wrong. Though I think the push on Cavare was a yellow.

Sadly he got Jacobs decision right. Luckily he didn’t see the stamp on Hart by McGeehan who is showing more by the game what a nasty cynical streak he has.
