Georgie Gent was subbed after 26 minutes yesterday, which got me thinking about other players that didn't last very long in their first game. There are dozens who came on as sub in the final few minutes, so their debut was ended by the final whistle, but I'm referring to players whose debut was ended by being subbed or receiving a red card.

de Gevigney was subbed after 37 minutes against Oxford last season but he'd come on as sub for 5 minutes against Peterborough earlier in the week, so it wasn't his debut

Frimpong lasted half an hour against Wednesday before being sent off. Carl Reagan only lasted 18 minutes in our opening fixture against Norwich in 2000/01 before seeing red. But for fewest minutes on the pitch that I can think of, the award goes to Dale Jennings who was brought on to the field 61 minutes into our opening game against Wigan in the 2013/14 season and was sent off 5 minutes later. He was sent off in the first game of the following season too.

    Any others?

Can't compete with 5 mins but Mowatt was sent off on his debut after 42 mins against Wolves.

Of ones who started the game there can’t be any with less. As you say, likely a lot of players, mainly kids, coming on as a late sub.

So if the others were all sent off - is he the shortest debut when the manager actually decided to pull the player?

Seem to think Steve Agnew came on as a sub for his debut in the 1980s and was on the pitch for less than a minute before the ref blew for full time, but as for being brought off Gent must be one of shortest debuts.

Mido didn’t last more than a few minutes if my memory serves. Was a while ago though

O’Neil Thompson, lasted 28 minutes before he was subbed at Watford in Robins first game in charge. He was a Davey signing but Robins sussed him out quickly & we never saw him again.

Good call. He was replaced by Odejayi who was then also subbed later in the game.

Ones i remember is Frimpong and Watters. I also remember,as Jay said, when Robins subbed his sub Odejayi off. I think we all did a huge sigh of relief as we knew that was the end of his time at Oakwell. Which is a shame cos he's a smashing lad

I remember Chris Wood being hooked very early in a match. Don't know if it was his home debut though.

We were getting overran in midfield so we went to a back four - Earl stayed in at left back, Gent came off to get Jon Russell on.

He wasn’t hooked for performing poorly - not that he stood out either way in the time he was on.

He was pulled to benefit the team. The change didn’t garner a result but did improve us markedly.

He changed shape again later too trying to get an equaliser. You can’t accuse Clarke of sitting on his hands.
