RE: the police dont just beat the **** out of people yankee Apparently your police do not have access to modern weaponry and tactics. Tazers, guns that shoot bean bags to subdue suspects. Pepper spray that works as instantly as a bullet in the brain. All that's left is the innocent man who was shot while being held down. What if he had his hand on the most likely kind of trigger? The one that detonates AFTER the finger is lifted? His death would have relaxed his hand and that entire train load of people would be dead. As for them not beating the **** out of him in front of witnesses? Oh, please. The cops had no problem shooting him, what makes you think they would have thought twice about pistol-whipping him in public?
RE: Well said... Well it's been reported on Sky News, and 2 newspapers this morning. I quote, there are no witnesses who say they heard the shout of STOP POLICE. I'm not saying it's correct, I'm saying it's what has been reported. Just shows that anything you disagree with you dismiss as serious ballax.
We haven't assumed he couldn't speak English... We're saying IF he couldn't... a lot of folk are saying 'what if didn't speak English?' as if that's an excuse, and we're discussing a side issue. Is that not allowed?
Does it? No, it shows that I've dismissed that suggestion as 'serious ballax', not EVERYTHING I don't agree with, you're just making things up Gary.
RE: What on earth are you two on about? He had been here three years and was working as an electrician. When the police corned him, he had his arms stretched out like a frightened rabbit. The police shot him from close range whilst he was face down on the ground, FIVE times. Why was that neccesary?
You ever been on foreign holiday to somewhere you couldn't speak the language? Your argument appears to be based on the fact that if he couldn't speak English he deserved to be shot. Lets have a look at that. So, you're in Greece. Some guys in everyday dress point their guns at you. You can't understand what they're saying. They're shouting. You're scared shitless. Would you make a run for it or allow yourself to be gunned down where you stand? If they shoot you did you deserve it 'cos you couldn't speak Greek? Have your actions, the action of being shot, tainted the reputation of all foreigners? FFS
RE: Does it? So, you choose to dismiss that line of reporting as serious ballax then? As I say, anything that doesn't fit in with your beliefs you dismiss. Look, I think the police have a hard job here - I can understand their panic, I feel though, there was a MUCH better way of handling this than shooting a defenceless guy, face down 5 times in the head. What are we coiming to?
RE: What on earth are you two on about? Great debating point. "He had been here three years and was working as an electrician. When the police corned him, he had his arms stretched out like a frightened rabbit. The police shot him from close range whilst he was face down on the ground, FIVE times. Why was that neccesary? Stevie - that was a question...why is it talking ****? What's a matter - can't you find a satisfactory answer?
RE: You ever been on foreign holiday to somewhere you couldn't speak the language? So I've said he deserved to be shot if he didn't speak English? Explain where please. If I went to LIVE in a foreign country I would learn the language, what me and AM were saying was that some people come and live over here and don't make any attempt to learn English - HOWEVER that was a general point and not to do with this Brazilian lad. Basically, people in these couple of threads have said that he might not have understood police shouting at him because he wasn't English, so we were discussing a side issue - why some folk come over here and hide away in their ghettos and don't try and learn the language and fit into society. At no point have I said he deserved to be shot, just that I understand given what seems to have happened, why the police took the action that they did.
RE: You ever been on foreign holiday to somewhere you couldn't speak the language? ..and some people are just frightened when 3 or 4 burly men come hurtling at you with guns. The natural instinct is to run like hell.
RE: Does it? You seem very sure of the facts seeing as they're all conflicting as you said. How come he was face down if he was running off and didn't stop? You're making out that he laid down and surrendered and then they shot him 5 times, which is not true by any accounts is it? And I don't dismiss anything I don't agree with as ballax, stop making things up. What I think is ballax is that police haven't followed procedure and just chased a bloke randomly without making it clear that they were police - I don't believe that they're that unprofessional.
Can't see how it was a general point and nothing to do with the Brazillian lad when the title of the post that both you and AM gave your thoughts under was: 'its alright but people like that give the decent foreigners a bad name'. A direct reference to this lad that was shot.
RE: Does it? Well, we don't know ANY definite facts, but most reports did say that the guy stumbled, fell on his face in the train and the police shot him 5 times in the head. That came from 5 or 6 witnesses interviewed on SKy TV. I don't believe they WERE unprofessional enough not to shout POLICE, what I'm saying is that SOME people said they didn't so how do we know? You are saying it was the Brazilian guys' own fault for running away after he was told to stop - well, ANYONE can shout POLICE can't they? Did he have to stop and look at their badege then?
RE: Can't see how it was a general point Right okay well my point was meant as a general one, maybe his wasn't.
RE: What on earth are you two on about? roundsman someone waves agun at you & you dont stop in any language i would thats why youre talking ****
If someone wearing a uniform pointed a gun at me I'd stop If some bloke on the street started waving a gun about I'd have a serious think about running. Are you sure you wouldn't?
RE: What on earth are you two on about? Whooooahh...I never said I wouldn't have stopped - but he didn't...I'm stating pure facts here, and I simply asked a question...was it neccesary? Surely the question demands a yes or no answer - not just "You're talking ****".
RE: If someone wearing a uniform pointed a gun at me I'd stop if they was shouting police yes & as there were plenty of witnesses dont matter what nationality you are you understand the word police you know its true
