Should BFC be concerned by rising attendances at Athersley Rec/Shaw Lane etc..?

Huge caveat comparing non league with football league business.

. I'd never pay £4 to watch two pub teams, especially one from Athersley.

Fook moi! Probably the BBSs snobbiest ever comment! I take it your user name is actually your real one?!?

It is fella. But when you've a 10 year old lad who chooses one over the other then there's something that needs dealing with.

Ten bob snob alert instead of 'keeping it real' on a Barnsley site coming out with 'especially in Athersley'!!!!! Embarrassing

To put the attendances of the 2 games in context, the previous week in a higher league Frickley v FCUManchester (who usually have a massive following for that level) attracted 550!

Considering Barnsley weren't playing last night, no. In fact it would be good to see the club encourage our supporters to watch local non league games. None of the local teams in the area are in any position to challenge Barnsley as the biggest club in the town and seemingly never will, therefore it would be nice for the club to maybe promote local non league football, maybe to help these teams grow and gain some sort of statue in the upper regions of non league football. If Athersley Rec for example were to ever make it as high as say the conference. Then it would be clear to see that they could then stand on their own 2 feet.

Nowt to do with snobbery mate. Played local football missen for donkeys years and the places we got most grief from spectators and players alike were Athersley and Lundwood. I'm a Brigger missen so no better than Athersley in terms of social standing. Just hated going to Laithes Lane playing fields and getting kicked up in the air and having a week off work every time we played Wellington, Athersley Youth and even Athersley Rec before Porky took em to another level.
