Just got tickets this morning to see Death Cab for Cutie and The Postal Service in Glasgow in August, with Teenage Fanclub as support. Also going to see King Creosote in Norwich Cathedral in May.
Going proper anarcho-communist and watching Steve Ignorant singing Crass at the Brudenell next week. On the way home I'll probably smash up a phone box to stick it to the man - but not one that contains a defibrillator. Other gigs booked for the year: Pixies (x2), Jesus and Mary Chain, Snuff (x2), Chameleons (x2), Half Man Half Biscuit and Dogstar. Its like the 80s every day.
I'm a big fan of The National (who are unfortunately in the UK when I'm in France this summer and vice versa) and I can't listen to their song New Order T-Shirt without thinking of Joy Division Oven Gloves. They must know.

Presumably that’s the open air thing ? Never thought I’d see the day that they’d appear at Scarborough ! The town will be shaking
I went to a gig at Scarborough Spa, last Saturday in memory of the late Paul Toole, DJ, venue owner of the Stage Door in Scarborough back in the day & lately of Revival Records, Scarborough, a brilliant record shop to this day. Were about 8 live acts, including Grandads Don't Indicate, who reformed, without sadly the deceased Stevie Adams, who was a great singer, in a largely shambolic, but hilarious lo-fi band. Somewhere in the territory of Half Man Half Biscuit, but totally unique. Were about 15 DJs on too, playing music of all spectra. They played the full length documentary of the band, which does not seem to be on any platform, but is pure comedy genius. All I can find is a brief trailer, which gives you an idea of how good it is. I met the guy behind the film too, who is a friend of my current lady friend, which was partially why I was there. Was a life affirming day, with some great music at the seaside. Trailer is here, it really should get some distribution. It knocks the film about Anvil, which is great out of the water TBH for it's surreal humour & enjoyment of an east coast Yorkshire seaside town. https://filmfreeway.com/DeadMint
I’ve always found DBFC to be good, rather than great, but the acoustic version of the Asphalt Meadows LP is brilliant. I picked a copy up in Bear Tree in Sheffield recently.
I was late to the party with Asphalt Meadows and I actually heard the acoustic version first. I switch between the two depending on my mood but I definitely listen to the acoustic version more.
