I like how you've limited it to competitive matches because in ALL international matches we lost just 4 matches ago
Competetive was probably the 5-0 (or was it1) THRASHING at the hands of the mighty GERMANY !!!!! Might not be right but I hope it is
It's still not a massive amount if you just say, how many times have they lost in 90 minutes. BTW. England have lost twice in 90 minutes in competitive since January 1st 2008. The way people go on it's like England lose every other month.
Of which the two games England lost? 4-1 when England played with a weak defence and a cheating Ref and Lino. Clearly over the line and at 2-2 game on 1-0 to Ukraine when England played the worst they have for a long time.
I wouldn't say they cheated, they made a mistake. Germany are a very good team though, they outclassed England.
There were on Bench. Goodness and Matt Upson stated and they only won by three. Peter Crouch 11 Joe Cole 64' 12 Robert Green 13 Stephen Warnock 17 Shaun Wright-Phillips 87' 18 Jamie Carragher 20 Ledley King 21 Emile Heskey
BBC report: Germany's deserved win and convincing victory margin will be overshadowed forever in the minds of Fabio Capello and his squad by a moment they believe robbed them of the hope of reaching the last eight. Matthew Upson had thrown England a lifeline just before half-time after a vastly superior Germany had taken a stranglehold on the game with goals from Miroslav Klose and Lukas Podolski.
A great team wins things, this team will come nowhere near. Even the best components: Gerrard, Lampard, Cole, Rio, Rooney have all been around for years in other England teams that again came nowhere near success. It just doesn't look or play like a unit, to me it feels a bit like us under Keith Hill. On the plus side, the U21s are AWESOME and haven't conceded a goal in over 1000 minutes of football. The solution is obvious. Retire the current squad after Brazil and fast track the little basterds to the first team along with their psycho manager, quick before they pick up any bad habits. And cap their wages at 32k p.a. and get rid of that St George's holiday camp.
Well both rooney and charlton's goal tallys include friendlies. In fact without friendlies Rooney would already have scored more goals than Charlton and Lineker so I'd say that if you're counting friendlies for goals then you must also count them for losses
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/world_cup_2010/matches/match_51/default.stm I forgot how annoying those vuvuzela's and Mark Lawrenson were!!
Alternative argument: Since (and including) 2010 England have played three top 13 countries and lost them all. They have played 5 top 15 games and failed to win a single one. The highest ranked team they have managed to defeat was 17th. The lowest they have failed to win was 54th. In club football that equates to the lowest placed team we drew against being Coventry and the best team we managed to beat being Villa. Or more detailed: losses against Tottenham, Arsenal and Newcastle Draws against West Ham (twice), Leicester, Middlesbrough, Derby, Ipswich, Peterborough and Coventry Wins over: Aston Villa, Reading, Cardiff, Swindon, Coventry, Notts County, Accrington, Ebbsfleet, Hayes and Yeading and Enfield Town (twice) When you look at it like that it isn't very impressive is it and it shows that England hardly ever play good quality opposition but when they do they fail
Sorry having my tea after a hard days graft. I think phil you need to have a bit of a reality check regarding England's capabilities at international level, especially in competitive matches. Since the turn of the millennia there have been seven tournaments. England have qualified for six. They have only managed to progress to the quarter final in four of those tournaments. Their world ranking is based around beating teams like Andorra and Luxembourg in qualifying. Thatis hardly the mantra of a very good team given the claims of there being 'world class players' through out the team. You compare that record to Germany...they have qualified for all the tournaments since 2000. That's seven in total. Only twice have they failed to reach a semi final. That's a nation you continually berate as being 'rubbish' The issue with England is the lack of strength in depth of quality players. The better England players are either injury prone or at the arse end of their careers. For example the lack of striking options is frightening compared to say 10-15 years ago. There isn't any.
