What about who they have sold to balance these transfers? We have spent a few million and only received a fee for Howard as far as l can remember giving us a significant minus net figure. Watford - Young...Plymouth - Ebanks-Blake...
But thats a different point The point was have they spent money on strikers to enable them to have a better strike force and therefore a better chance of winning games, regardless of where the money came from. Not criticising for one second the investment made in hte squad, but to suggest it is significantly more than a lot of teams isn't true
"Plus we had to sign an entirely new set of forwards as those that got us promoted weren't good enough at this level" Presumably you mean Hayes and Richards who both had a far better record at this level for us than Odejayi and Mostto, their replacements, have
Agree, but its a different argument We're not talking about balancing the book, but whether the clubs you metioned have a less expensive strike force. the players metioned at those clubs all cost significant money and wages. Most of the clubs you mentioned have spent more on their strike force which should in theory be better
RE: Agree, but its a different argument What l'm saying is net wise we have put up a lot more money than a few of the clubs in our division. Many have only bought after selling top players. I think we have surprised a few teams with the amount of money we have invested, although a large chunk would have been due to the cup success.
At this level Richards scored 6 goals in 33 games, prior to davey coming in he had 5 in 17 games. Hayes scored 6 in 37 games, prior to davey's arrival he had 4 in 19. Their replacements Mostto and Odejayi have scored 2 in 27 (mostto) and 5 in 69 (odejayi) Games per goal that works out at (in order) Richards: 5.5 Hayes: 6.2 Mostto: 13.5 Odejayi: 13.8 Prior to Davey taking over Richards had a championship record of one goal every 3.4 games and Hayes one in 4.7
RE: A lot of people are saying "with our limited funds" But you also have to consider the level of the squad before the money was invested. I don't think many would argue we were fortunate getting promotion, and the team that came up were weak in this division. You can't just compare the money as a direct comparison. A team coming down from the prem could spend nothing, or even sell. Yet a team could come up from league 1 and spend a couple of million. The prem team would still likely be stronger even though in recent terms, they have spent much less. The money we have spent recently is only just bringing us up to a decent championship level from our league 1 team. Its the next investment to push us on into play off contenders thats the interesting one.
Not for me they weren't Stats don't tell the whole story either, Hayes and Richards were playing week in week out. Odejayi and Mostto were mainly subs and never had an extended run in the team. Not saying they're good enough but I think Odejayi is a better player than Richards. Hence why Richards is playing in League 2 and odejayi is being linked with league 1 - both there right level
Has anyone else got any pointless arguments to add to this debate? Why is everyone overlooking the fact that the value of land and property has plummeted since Davey was in charge. A clear indication that Ritchie was more successful. Hayes was also worth more then he is now. Oh and don't get me started on broadband connectivity and Wispa bars.
Was that... Bringing Nicky Wroe on for Martin Devaney? Jesus Christ! We moan about the lack of quality on the bench now... Look at the state of that one!
Failure Not ready. Arrogance preventing him from developing.
A sacking would give him the kick-up-the-arse he desperately needs.

What planet are you on?? Odejayi has had more chances than Richards and Mossto put together. When Hayes was here, I hated him with a passion (as a player). I would gladly take him back now, as I would with Richards, who I always thought was a reasonable player. There are only two current strikers (Macken & Hume) that I wouldn't gladly swap for either of those two at the moment.
Thought Hayes was a good player but wouldn't want him back at this level. I don't understand why Richards has such a fan club. Did well in patches for us but at Championship level he was out of place. He's scored 7 in 20 games now in League 2 - at his level
