    I know we shouldn't be picking over his words like vultures...

    should read

    "...but if people make individual errors you have to claim that there was nothing you could have done about it."

    Cos that's the context in which he's saying it.

    If you make errors then you have to work harder to stop them happening again. Work on technique, get the plan sorted, breed confidence because of this, distill player's thoughts, enforce concentration, eliminate the errors. Errors are not good enough.

    In the end though, they're just words. Spectamur agendo, lads... remember that.

    Let's boil that statement down to the essential parts:

    'we are fine... the mood in the dressing room is fine'. OK - after that result, you're going to talk up the situation. The best he can reach to is 'we're fine'. Read into that what you will.

    'If the error gets punished...' = he is not going to drop Calamity Muller.

    'We have to make sure that we're all pulling in the right direction' = I don't think we're all pulling in the right direction/he's losing or lost the dressing room.

    "We have to look at how they played against them" = we're going to do that daft thing where we try a new formation designed to worry about what they might do to us...

    'to take something from the game' = congratulations Davey, you've found a new way of saying 'this is a game we can't afford to lose'. So we'll play for a draw then? I'm also convinced of that by the comment he made about 'we have an idea of how many points we need' - he has this one down for a draw.

    Here we go - another stuff the midfield, keep the ball, create no chances performance. We'll either lose narrowly, or get another one of those wonderful moral victories that equal one point.

    I'm not even going to talk about the delusional ***** trying to excuse or explain the Swansea game.
