It’s a fair point. I’ve referenced strikers who’ve had Moore, Dike, Morris, Chaplin, Toney, Fletcher, Bradshaw, Watkins etc alongside them. Poor old Davis has had Humphrys, Cosgrove and Watters. Bless him.
At this level I think he will score goal whichever position he plays,. he's playing up top out of necessity. Can you imagine if he played the 10 role and we had a goal scorer up top aswell. He's not a fox in the box type and his heading ability is poor but there's not many better at our level at shifting the ball and hitting the target. Easier said than done but if we had a top 2 capable of scoring 25 goals and Dkd getting 15 abit deeper we would be in with a right chance of getting of this league.
Of the 30 players to score 13 or more goals in Leagues One and Two last year, only six have gone on to reach double figures this season. Alfie May Sam Smith Davis Keillor-Dunn Will Evans Andy Cook Max Dean No way were we going to sign May, Smith, or Dean, Signing both Evans and DKD from Mansfield would have been cruel (but he'd be a target for me this summer, especially if their bad run continues and they go down), and Andy Cook was my shout a couple of years ago when he was out of contract, but he's now crocked and getting on a bit. Of the big names Dion Charles and Jordan Rhodes are absolute washouts this year.
I said this in another thread, but I actually thought Rodriguez didn't do a bad job of stretching Rotherham's defence at the weekend. I was surprised that he didn't get a run ahead of Watters last night. Obviously he's not the long term answer (I don't think) but I'd like to see him get a bit of a run because he's different to what we have already.
I still don’t think he has played as a striker much. Played on the left behind the striker for the most part. It’s normally been Watters or Humphrys as the lone striker with DKD & Phillips behind & to either side of the striker. Tremendous return from him but most of his goals aren’t what I’d class as strikers goals. They’re the types of goals attacking midfielders or wide men cutting in tend to score. Most of them have been from distance or at least the edge of the box.
