    Jason Scotland/ Marlon Harewood.

Grabbed our ailing team by the scruff of its neck and turned it into a team that believed in itself.

That says it all for me, when I've met the youth players they clearly have no idea about Barnsley as a club and don't want to know, in fact they tend to seem embarrassed to be in the youth system for Barnsley having started at "bigger" clubs academies. How are we supposed to see any commitment from the players on the pitch if even the academy players can't wait to leave!

Peter Springett who missed one game in goal for us in 78/79 when Clarke's team got uis promotion to Division 3. Signed for us as a 29 year old in 1975 and made over 200 appearances in the 4 years he spent at Oakwell.

Makes not a jot of difference when the Manager has a problem articulating his ideas and tactics across to the team, perhaps because he has no idea himself.

Never Mind at least we can say were gunna plod on regardless which is more than what is coming from the club at the moment!!!!!

Could only pass sideways but when he did he used to say to Ronnie Glavin 'Go on and get my win bonus!'.

I'd say 13 games in the first couple of months is quite a few. And I'm not sure I understand the point you're trying to make. He WAS here and DID play at the start of the season you can pretend he wasn't and didn't all you like but the simple fact is he was and did

How many were starts though? It wasnt really until November time if I remember right we started pushing towards the play offs so his experience didnt really help too much anyway.

Experience on the training ground and in the changing room is vitally important.

By the way we were 1 point off 6th when he left for rotherham

Something that everyone seems to know - with the exception of the board running the club and the originator of this thread of course.

Young inexperienced and naive players + young inexperienced and naive manager = relegation. Or close to it.

We are rudderless, we need a backbone, yes on the pitch but more importantly around the club, keeping it together, leading the dressing room and demanding better in training.

LJ may or may not be sacked, Cryne might be a bit of a tyrant, Mansford might be a nonsense talking lovely person, there are allsorts of off field issues probably desperate for addressing. But adding a bit of experience and guile/nous to the squad would make us stronger on the pitch and probably gain a few better results. That would be a start, the rest we can argue over when we are closer to mid table.

So basically you reckon experienced players are not worth having, because we let Barry Conlon leave in November, even though he played in 13 games and missed only 5 games? Is that it ? If its not your point, what is? I am struggling to figure it out mate?

My point is Barry Conlon did not play a massive part in our promotion.

While he was here he played in nearly every game that season, that cannot be denied, I dont think Supertyke ever said he was pivotal in getting promoted, just that he was an experienced player we used that season. 13 games is 25% of the season mate, he missed only 5/6 in the time he was here that season. this thread is not really about if you think he played a massive part, just that he played and was experienced.
