Magnum for me are an absolutely amazing band and have been around for years in one form or another. Tony Clarkin and Bob Catley have been ever present in the band and their music deserves more, on a story tellers night is an absolutely amazing album.

I couldn't agree more with this.
Saw them at Holmfirth about 5 years ago and they were excellent. Bob Catley's voice was still amazing, even though he was about 70 then.

    Taylor Swift

Obviously they have huge fan bases, but they are also sneered at because of the way they rose to fame. I'd actually say that both are exceptionally talented. Taylor Swift is a great songwriter, and whilst it's not all my cup of tea, I think there is some unjustified snobbery around her work.

Jake Bugg. - Unique voice and exceptionally talented songwriter. When his 1st album came out I thought he would be the next big thing, but sadly he doesn't have the personality to be a big star.
Richard Ashcroft - People only associate his voice with one of the Verves albums but he's got so much more than that. Again, a unique voice.

Until last couple of weeks, Metallica were the only headline band I've ever walked out on. Saw them at the "Big Day Out" in Milton Keynes in the late 90s and I lasted four songs - 2 of which were "Master of Puppets". (Billy Idol was the second). Both times though we'd gone to see the support bands rather than the main event.

At the first Download, Metallica made security clear the entire backstage area (I'd won backstage tickets off Radio 1 :)) before they arrived as "mystery guests". Even the likes of Iron Maiden or Marilyn Manson didn't do that.

I think the critics always looked down on poor Rick after his spell as lead singer of the Smiths.

Jake Bugg. I remember him bursting onto the scene. Laura bought me the Jake Bugg album. It got played it twice and it got on my tits that much as all I could picture was George Formby twanging his Ukulele

    Jake Thackray.

No seriously, did some weirdly fascinating songs with a Yorkshire slant.

I'd submit this Eddie Kendricks track, which I think is blinding soul / funk / boogie. He was a founding member of the Temptations, so scored a a few hits as part of the band. He did some great stuff under his own name, but it did slightly less well, but is revered in some northern soul / disco / boogie type circles.
