a sad day for football, a great yet very humble man. Went to an after dinner he did at Grimsby a few years back, memorable for many reasons. A true footballing legend, up there with the best. RIP.

Hopefully we will have a minute's silence tomorrow

I'll always remember his reaction to Lineker's equaliser against Germany

It will be but let's hope it's a respectful silence and not the tacky recent trend of applause

True Legend would have won world cup in 1990 if gazza had not got booked in semi against cheating kraut and had to bring him off because is head had gone gazza playing in extra time would have been difference from winning and losing

Unbelievable one of the best managers England have had in my living memory but he was slated prior to the 1990 world cup by the press! RIP

    He once tapped me up...

He was at Newcastle Uni to recieve an honourary doctorship or somesuch, purely by chance I bumped into him, had to shake his hand and pay my respects.

Said he could use a tall central defender like me,

I said, I can't run, never mind tackle! What I should have said was can I have a trial then please!

    RIP Legend
