    I've seen quite a few Grass snakes over the years, they have a yellow collar behind the head that sometimes looks like two yellow spots if the collar doesn't go all the way round.
    Colourwise they've varied from dark green to a brown shade...length about three to for feet.

    I followed a big dark adder down the road on a hot day walking down to Hartland Quay in Devon. Was a wonderful thing to see

    Never seen a snake in the wild. Growing up in Pontefract. I lived next to "Cow Hill" field. It was full of long dry grass and there was even hedges backing onto the field. Woodland and a stream next to Baghill Station. As kids we played in that field all summer and never so much as saw a sliver.

    It must just be one of them things that happen to you. As Tommy Cooper used to say "just like that".

    I think it's just a question of where you are mate. You have a lot more chance of seeing one in the south west for one thing- I'm not sure we have adders at all in Yorkshire.

    On my recent long distance walk in Yorkshire I saw several warning signs about adders, particularly for dog owners. Dogs are relatively safe on open paths, but are at risk if they venture into long grass. Never seen one but I've spoken to people who have, and to people whose dogs have been bitten.

    On a more serious note from mi 1st post ...ah saw an adder up near the trans pennine trail at Gilroyd, also seen one up on the path between Wentworth castle and Green farm caravan site...
