Which just goes to show how little importance you can place on pre-season results

Apart from a 'winning mentality' being in place as opposed to last season's pre-season results.

RE: Correct, Both Cryne and Davey have'nt come out of the close season with any credit.....

All this slagging off of both SD and PC before the season starts!! Is this not the same SD that HAS kept us in the division(Only just I know) persuaded good players like Anderson, Kosluk, Muller, Colace, Hassell (to re-sign), Foster, JCR to the club, I know he has not exactly got it right with all the players brought in, but neither has Sir Alex and this policy of trying to introduce youngsters kind of reminds me of when Fergie blooded the Beckham, Giggs, Scholes etc era. I am not saying it will work or that the players coming through are going to make it, but ffs give them a chance, you never know!!!

and for PC not worth fighting his corner, his record of saving our club stands for itself, leave the fella alone!!!!

Some people just like to moan, lets be patient and see what the future brings, hopefully it will be brighter than this forum thinks.... U Reds!!!

You said we were going to have a crap start to the season because of the pre-season results last season.

Then we have a good pre-season and you say pre-season means nothing.

You have no consistency, no positivity, you just want to be negative.

To be honest i'm more optimistic than i was this time last year

as we couldn't beat the likes of York City and Rotherham, i think the only team we did beat was Buxton, so it gives me confidence that we are comfortably beating the teams we couldn't beat 12 months ago.

I am consistent in my criticism of Davey and positive that we will always be bottom six toilers with him in charge

Pre-season encourages knee jerk reactions like it did with me last season and it has with the eternal optimists last season

As I said above I was right last season - don't think the optimists will be this season though

    I think both were adequate

If SD has got someone better lined up, fair play. However, he has given himself a LOT of work to do in terms of:
    [1] Identifying new players
    [2] Negotiating contracts
[3] Putting a TEAM together in a very short space of time.

I was interested in his comments the other week - stating they had been working on "tactics" as opposed to "fitness". That's all well and good, but you can only work on tactics when you've assembled your team...

I think by keeping both Souza & vH, he could have saved himself a bit of time & effort....

    That certainly sounds better

Obviously I don't want a relegation dogfight and I'm sure no-one else on here does.

I have 2 points in time when I think I can express an opinion on the squad - on 7th August before the first game, and on 31st August when the window closes. Then I'll know what the squad for the season is going to be and I'll be able to express an opinion on it.

I think the signs are good, so far - the young players have played a full part in pre-season games and done OK, we "appear" to be in the market for some class players, some players have moved on who were not good enough, Humey will eventually (hopefully) return, some other players (mentioning no names!!!!) seem to have at last found a bit of form, no long term injuries, a winning habit.

Even though the managment team have not inspired a great deal of confidence during most of last season I feel when it mattered at the end of the season they generally did well and did the right things. They ground out the odd win at crucial times and became very difficult to beat. I sure we would all have felt better if it had been a more comfortable season but three very big clubs would have readily swapped us positions.

Despite the quality of the opposition the improvement has been carried on to the new season. Some of the players have gone but they have been replaced by younger and perhaps keener players. Even if we do not get anyone in by the start of the season there are going to be some very desperate players around in August and thus can be picked up then. Then we have the opportunity of loan players to come in.

It is dissapointing we do have any exciting new players yet to debate about but I cannot see the need for so much gloom. Really looking forward to Saturday, and the following Saturday, and the following Saturday.

If we have a poor start, then i am certain Simon Davey as somewhere to go, probably on the National Express back to Swansea. But i agree with Parker, if we are unable to bring in quality players then we must have a weaker side than last season. I'm sure Davey is trying his best to bring players in before the big kick-off. It's whether these players he is hoping to get are hanging on for bigger clubs.
If that's the case then Simon could be back to square one, and that dosn't bode to well for us.

Well now you have the chance to tell them. They will be at a meeting at East Dene Working Men's Club on 4th August so you can raise your conerns and fears there.

You never know they may re-assure you that it will all be alright

    I'm not worried.

I think we'll do well this season.

We were unlucky in quite a few games last season, and still stayed up. I think we'll finish comfortable in mid table this season, with or without anymore new signings. Of course, I'm not saying I wouldn't welcome the likes of Adam Hammill, Charlie Adam et al.

Good on you for not worrying

Well I'm sorry but all the 'hope and I'll see where we are when we get there' isn't going to wash in 9 days time when the season kicks off.

The last season finished months ago and so far we have released a number of players and signed 2 back up players.

1 of those back ups for positions that needed a complete overhaul.

SD talks about getting 3 more players in before the season starts so that is his best case scenario.

IMHO we need at least 6 players in so 3 is a god damn minimum. Why do you think it is taking so long for these players to sign?

Because there is just us in the picture?

I'll be very suprised if we sign more than 2 before we start.

    I agree totally

It isn't going to wash in 9 days time. If things are the same in 9 days time I will probably worry, but I'm not worrying at all today because I trust the club to sign the players we need, however long it takes.

I don't know why it's taking so long to sign players, but it seems to be taking so long for loads of other clubs too. I would hazard a guess it is something to do with money!

Personally I would rather wait and get 3 players of the quality of Hammill rather than sign 6 inferior players. It could be argued that the players who have left have been replaced by younger players coming through, players returning from injury etc. If some of these are ready for the step up, we may not need the 6 players you mention, but if not, well you could be right.
