Last season, some players had were affected by injury which restricted the number of games they were able to play casting doubt upon the games that they will be able to play in the future (McNulty). Some players have reached an age when they can no longer expect to be a first team regular (Hassell / Scotland). Some players never established themselves as a first team regular (Cywka). Because of the risks attaching to these players, they have been offered one year contracts on wages that recognise they will probably not be first team regulars. I see nothing sinister in the situation. I am surprised that Steele is in this group. I guess that Cranie and Etuhu have been offered 2 year contracts to reflect the fact that they are first team regulars.
[ Some players have reached an age when they can no longer expect to be a first team regular (Hassell / Scotland). Hassell is 33, fitter and leaner than he has been for many a year. Unlike a lot of people on this board like to mention, he is not slow but as quick as the majority of his team mates. He is definitely quicker than a 39 year old who won promotion for his club to the premiership. The same player that will be 40 next and will be now treated better by his club than Hassel has been treated by Barnsley/Flitcroft.
Not a big fan of David Flitcroft, then? Three posts and every one attacking the new manager and questioning his integrity? You're certainly entitled to your opinion and this is the perfect medium on which to air them. http://bbs.barnsleyfc.org.uk/member.php?56178-welshred
