I have to say, I have mixed emotions right now. That was an immense performance. I've just watched a group of players playing for each other, the fans and the manager. 110% (apart from Jacob Mellis). The play was cohesive, energetic, and the 'square and back' tippy-tappy Keith Hill nonsense in our own half, was nowhere to be seen. Difficult to say over 1 derby game, if that's deliberate and specifically down to changes that Flicker has made. But if it is, I like it. I like it a lot. It also sounds like The Don is going to make an internal appointment - either interim or longer term. If he is, then there's no-one better equipped at the Club. So unless there's a top class manager waiting in the wings that we don't know about - and bearing in mind The Don has said he hasn't spoken to anyone else since Terry Butcher - I can't see that anyone else at the Club could do a better job right now. And for the record, i've been strongly against the Flicker appointment so far. But today's performance has made me reconsider a few things. Knowing us, that probably means Ronnie Branson announced tomorrow morning. Flicker to take the Blackpool job and guide them to the play-offs. Ha!
It's a tricky one. There's usually a bounce when teams sack managers and it's easy when we're winning, all manager's really earn their money when times get tough. Is this a 'dead cat bounce' or something more permanent? That's hard to judge but the players are obviously still motivated so there's an argument for letting him get on with it.
Tomfun - that sums it up perfectly. I was against Flicker at all costs, but if he can get them to play like that, and drop the indirect stuff, he'll do to the end of the season at least. My bet was on Leeds today, but it's one I'm delighted to lose - especially with a performance like that. Oh, and one more thing. How much balls has Dagnall got to step up and take that pen after the run of bad luck he's had (to say nothing of facing down Big Marlon!).
Tbf to mell is he has been out of action quite a while and whilst his fitness and touch were't there he did show SOE desire imo
What's your problem? Absolutely brilliant team performance today with more passion and commitment than we've seen all season and you're sat posting stuff like that? Support Flitcroft or not, you can't argue with results. So why not just be happy for a change instead of trying to belittle people on an internet forum. The capacity for some Barnsley fans to find fault where there is none is truly mind-boggling sometimes. COYR
give it to flicker till end of season or we could finish up with the youth manager branson last time we did that we finished up with davey and the rest is history
Ive been saying this for the past 3 weeks. But nobody seemed to listen,he isnt in the hill mould hes playing different formation and the players seem to love playing for him. and to all the people who just want Bobby in the team, i dont think he can argue after recent performances. At some point he will get a chance and he will have to take it,otherwise he will be warming the bench the rest of the season.
Ive agreed with you on everything Hill related Mark and i know its a principle thing for you, but I've come away from oakwell two weeks on the trot smiling and feeling positive, so he's doing something right despite his choice of mates. Don't cut your nose off, he's got them playing for him.
i'm holding my hands up on this. i was strongly in the anti-Flicker camp until today's game. what i saw today, was a group of players running through walls for each other and the manager. that's the only thing that's going to keep us up. the 'square and back' rubbish disappeared. the ball actually moved forward, with a purpose. the players actually faced towards THEIR goal, when they picked the ball up. this could totally be a one off and things could be back to square 1 next game. but right now we're $hit out of time and options. the transfer window is fading fast and i cannot see any better alternative. i've changed my mind - flicker until the end of season.
It's certainly made me think again. Not so much the result, but the way we played. I was expecting Flicker's team to play in a similar manner to Keith's. But we didn't, not at all. We were much more direct, passes went forwards not side to side and backwards and as a result we created more chances since, well, since I can't remember when. And it was obvious the players were giving everything for their manager. Yesterday I felt Flitcroft would be the wrong choice. Today I am far more relaxed about the prospect of him having the job. Fickle you see.
I went to Peterborough and the passion with which the Reds played was incredible. That was Flitcroft's first game in charge! He has been brave enough to change the tactics and the formation, and he has done very well - he has a win ratio of 66% to date. Not only that but he has obviously got the players playing for him. Dave Flitcroft is a genuine, smashing bloke who is also humble and down to earth. He is articulate in interviews and comes across as a great ambassador of BFC, something which Keith Hill sadly didn't do. Flitcroft could do a really good job for us if he can maintain this level of passion, commitment and skill shown by the team. We would do a lot worse than give Flicker the manager's job until the end of the season - and until now I was more in favour of Nick Barmby.
