I find it very strange that you'd resort to sarcastic abuse of a player so keen to play for us, versus some of the tripe we've had over recent years not put any effort in.

You say a great distraction, but since his first full week training with us we've probably put in two of the better performances of the last three months, including two wins. He apparently played well in his trial game, and from what I've heard his positive attitude about our football club in general on the training pitch has had a positive effect on the younger players.

He owns a chain of pretty successful coffee shops across Argentina. Are you going to refer to Wabara as fashion boy in all your future posts?

Yeah he wants to play for us now. Perhaps they've shut the M1 southbound

Hammill left us too, he actually did leave, maybe we should tell him to get stuffed?

I'm really struggling to understand this.

When I was younger I got the job I wanted to do and I was really motivated. I always worked hard and even though I wasn't one of the best employees, I was an asset to the company. As I gained experience and got good at my job, I did become one of the better employees. However, as that happened, I began to notice the opportunities available at other companies in the same field. I could earn a lot more money elsewhere. I lost my motivation, I no longer went that extra yard, I simply went through the motions. Although I didn't directly let the company down, I was no longer helping them to progress. My very average performance was duly noted by the management. When I did finally leave for elsewhere, it was under a bit of a cloud.*

I'm now unemployed and I'm looking for work. I'm older and wiser now and thinking back, I realise it was a great company to work for and I want to return. Should that company employ me again just because I now really, really, really want to work for them? Me previously leaving for another job shouldn't be a problem. But me not giving them my best while I was looking elsewhere certainly is.*

Colace seems like a good bloke these days. I wish him health, happiness and success in whatever he does. But not with us. He burnt his bridges with us.

*I may have made all this up to illustrate a point.

But he played a full season for us after burning his bridges? It's not like he left under a cloud, he left after being released didn't he?

As for the trip down the M1. Didn't Nardiello do the same? But I don't remember that many folk moaning when he signed for us again. They definitely weren't moaning when he scored that goal against Birmingham.

I think I've read three different version of events about what went on with Colace and that trip down the M1. All contradict each other, all come from a so called 'source, and all claim to be true.

He was selected for a full season, it's debatable whether he actually played. His performances weren't a patch on what he'd given previously. His head had been turned and he no longer put in the same effort. Colace's final game for us was 09 April 2011 at home to Bristol City. He was injured in the 24th minute. Everyone realised that this was probably his last game for the club. He went down near the penalty area, Ponty side of the ground. He trudged all the way to the tunnel at the far end of the ground in almost total silence. He was our POTY the previous season, but no one clapped him off. That's leaving under a cloud.

I don't care that he spoke to other clubs during the summer of 2010. I would imagine that almost all players do, or their agents at least. I care that when he re-signed for us he played like he no longer wanted to be here. I forgive him as man for doing that. It's just football, it doesn't really matter. I'd go out for a beer with him. But I don't forgive him as a player. If I had any choice in the matter, he'd never play for my club again.

All I ask of Barnsley players is that they give us their all. Some of my favourite Barnsley players over the years have been pretty useless really, but ran their ballacks off. In his final season, Colace didn't.

But didn't the majority of his goals and assists come in that second season? In fact, didn't all his goals come in that second season?

Your opinion is your opinion, but my own view of his second season was that he was quite influential. Changed his way of playing to be less of the holding midfielder, and more box to box, scoring important goals and creating as well?

Anyway, we won't see him at Oakwell ever again so it's all a bit irrelevant. But my initial post was more about sarcastically insulting someone so keen to do well as oppose to whether anyone wanted him here or not.

I'm going to duck out of this conversation now considering my memory tells me he played for us for two seasons and it was actually three!

    Useless ......

Yes, they did. Colace played three seasons for us. I never particularly rated him, but if I'm being fair, the first season he was OK, nowt special. The second season he scored all the goals and won POTY. The summer after he scored the goals and after he won the player of the year he was talking to a load of other clubs. For whatever reason the deal fell through elsewhere and he eventually re-signed for us. In that final season he was ******* useless and didn't put in the same effort.

I know what your post was about. But he didn't want to do well in his final season with us and no amount begging on his behalf now changes that. I dare say he's grown up and he's a much nicer bloke now. I'm fine with that, but he can't change what he did.

Supertyke and I remember all that. I'm not having a go here Loko, but it appears, from what you've written, that you've misremembered what actually happened.

Just acknowledged that in a post before you sent this.

As for talking to loads of clubs (not because I'm defending him, just to show how football rumours start), I was at the League Manager's Association Christmas Dinner the November after Colace decided to stay with us. I remember at the time that the three teams that were strongly linked with him were Swansea, Palace, and someone else.

As pretty much every manager in the Championship was there, and I'd had a few drinks, I went and asked Brendan Rogers and the other manager who's name I forget* if they were close to signing Colace. Rogers laughed and said his agent made a phone call but he never returned it, and the other guy said pretty much the same. So not sure if he was ever talking to loads of other clubs or he had an agent that thought he could make some money out of him? There's also that whole Robins vs. Cryne rumour as well to factor in.

    * If I can't remember Colace played for us for three seasons I've got no chance of remembering who I spoke to that night

Maybe he wasn't speaking with other clubs directly. Maybe he was just being influenced by his agent and thought he was on for something better when it was never really there. (To be honest, I find your account much more credible because I never saw the footballer in him that won him the player of the year. Even with the goals, I didn't rate him, so I'm not surprised Rogers had a laugh at the though of signing him.) Either way, he returned to us demotivated and didn't give us what he was capable of. I may not have thought he was capable of all that much, but even that was a hell of a lot more than what he gave.

Just as an aside. As he walked off in that Bristol game, pretty much knowing that this would be his last ever appearance at Oakwell, he never once acknowledged the crowd. That's fine, he's done his time with us, he can move on and do what he likes with the rest of his career. But such actions make some of us very sceptical about what he's been saying recently and I do think sarcasm is an appropriate response to this very bizarre situation.

Would have loved to see him play alongside Scowen and Hourihane. The perfect blend.
