To be honest mate I think it is pretty trivial compared to what’s going on and what things could look like in a few weeks
But what about players that are out of contract in June, would they be willing to play for a team they don’t have a contract with in the summer?
The way to finish 20% of one competition shouldn't be to 100% cancel three different competitions. Players after a few months off will need a pre season again. You cannot expect them to rush through nine games after 2+ months off as injuries will occur.
But where do you stop? Football is cancelled with no intention of continuing because of it. Cinemas all closed? Restaurants? Pubs? Supermarkets? Interested to see where the cut off of 'it doesn't matter' is
I can’t see past only 2 outcomes without a legal minefield 1. Season is scrapped and everyone starts afresh next season in the same league 2. This season is eventually concluded no matter how long it takes, even if next season gets kicked into touch Any other permutations would be unjust in my opinion and too heavily influenced by corruption. I still believe we’ll stop up so to just act on current positions would discredit the fact that I would have been correct.
Agreed. I think they could fall back on the doctrine of frustration / force majuere of contract to escape legal challenge to option one hence why it’s most likely.
I think that scrapping it would have a lot of legal implications. If I was a team who lost against us next season I'd be kicking off big time because we should be in league 1. For example
Because we are in the relegation places and have been practically all season. Nothing at all to suggest we should stay up
We'll just finish the season off in a month or so and delay the start of the next. It's about time football was moved into June anyway, surprised they've not gone down that route with the potential to increase income.
It is quite simple really though, IF things get worse then only essential places such as supermarkets need to stay open. It is not a necessity to keep bars, cinemas and restaurants open. As much as it is going to devastate the economy.
I agree. Anything else is a nonsense. You can't complete a season on a best-guess basis. You have to fully complete or cancel. The EFL structure is a team light re: Bury's demise, so if it's possible for the National League to fulfill its fixtures, then that gap can be filled by Barrow or whoever. Even that feels optimistic though, the way the virus is progressing.
I'd say more than likely increase, most footy fans book their hols in preseason so they'll more than likely carry on doing that. Crowds will increase due to the better weather (impact of weather seen around the footballing calendar during the storm games) and other revenue streams like bars etc will also see improved sales. Having it a mainly winter sports is hindering its progress if they are wanting it to get to NFL levels. A 2 week break either side of Xmas (keep the xmas day tradition) could extend the season, most of the top managers are crying out for it.
If? and when the CV threat is over the reminder of this season can be concluded - it may take up to October/November to do that and then the new season kicks off as soon as possible after that.
So when you say to play in June what are you thinking? Slide it back a few months and play October to June or something. Or switch it completely and play say march to November?
