I'd rather have footie to watch over the Xmas fortnight than during the summer. I have better things to do in fine weather than visit Oakwell. And I couldn't give a stuff what the top managers are crying out for, they're not interested in what's best for the EFL clubs, not in the slightest. We're an inconvenience to them.
Delay the start by a few weeks avoiding July and the majority of August when its possibly too hot, a 4 week mid winter break gives us an extra 6/7 weeks so extending the end well into June. Didn't Rugby super league do a full revamp?
No, for starters when do plan to play the World and Euro competitions? Secondly, football has a stranglehold on sport as it is. Not all footy fans just watch footy. We follow other sports too.
Wigan’s form is enough of a reason. You could even present the form table of each month of the season to show how you can’t predict anything. We’re not operating the Duckworth Lewis method here.
Wigan's form is a reason to believe that the team bottom of the league won't go down? We aren't operating any system other than a league table. One that has us at the bottom of it, cut adrift and having lost our last two games. Nothing suggests we will get out of it except blind hope.
Apparently league ended in Chile 6 games to go. Title was awarded but no relegations or promotion. Happened last Nov. Most up to date precedent.
I’m coming from a biased viewpoint here no doubt but the table isn’t final until it’s final and all games are done. Look at what happened under Flitcroft that season, would we have gone down due to corona? Although admittedly, had we been in the promotion/playoff places at this stage, I’d probably be arguing the opposite right now! No outcome is going to please every supporter, that’s the only real guarantee here.
I know you don’t think as negatively as you come across, but this feels you’re revelling in our bottom of the table status? Forgive me if I’m wrong on that assumption. I know you know the answer to this anyway, but Wigan’s form shows any team can put a run together and anyone can beat anyone. That’s why with nine games to go you don’t just wave the white flag and give up on your season because you’re bottom of the league.
Oh I'm not saying it's final by any stretch. My point was just that if the season was cancelled and we stayed up I could see some lawsuits because nothing at all suggests we should be in the championship next season. If the season continues and we stay up it is done on merit. If it is cancelled and we stay up it obviously won't.
I hadn't waved the white flag and given up. I just pointed out that other teams would rightly feel aggrieved and it would probably result in lawsuits. For the fans and the employees I hope we stay up. For the owners I hope they lose a lo of money one way or the other and it drives them out of the club
Rumour on twitter to say wba and leeds promoted with no relegation , PL expanded to 22 for one season gaining traction not sure where that would leave us!
It looks like Leeds and West Brom are to go up. The Premier League being extended to 22. Would we keep the remaining 22 in the Championship and add 2 to it?
I said still have the traditional xmas games with breaks either side. I've better things to do all year than go to Oakwell but l still turn up. It's in the DNA.
Anyone who thinks this will all be over in 2 months is deluded (sorry) If we’re lucky it might just be done to start pre season in July - hopefully new season starts with everyone in the same leagues It’s going to take a premier league handout to keep many L1/L2 clubs going
It isn't just about "teams like Barnsley" being 7 points adrift though is it. What about the clubs who are only in the relegation/play off zone of their league on goal difference. The decision needs to be a fair and consistent one for everyone.
EFL would make every league the same surely. So top 2 in league one take the place of WBA and Leeds and next season all leagues have extra relegation places to put things back to normal.
